The miracle of how the USS Yorktown had been severely damaged during the battle of the Coral Sea and how they were patching her up while she was at Pearl Harbor and patching her up while she was going out to confront the Japanese Fleet.
We were so lucky that there was chaos in the command of the Japanese Fleet switching from bombs to torpedoes because they were confused by the bombing attacks from Midway and then getting word of part of the American Fleet being discovered.
We were fortunate that two Japanese aircraft carriers were damaged and there squadrons were mauled so they were non-mission capable to join the four Japanese aircraft carriers that participated and were later sunk it the battle in Midway.

MAJ Dale E. Wilson, Ph.D.
LTC Trent Klug - Not to mention Halsey was out of action because of shingles. Nimitz' decision to put Ray Spruance, a nonaviator, in command, proved to be prescient. It once again proved to be a case of the right man at the right time. He had outstanding aviation advisers and lacked the ego of Frank Jack Fletcher. . . .

MAJ Dale E. Wilson, Ph.D. I remember reading somewhere how ticked some of the naval aviators were...until they saw how he operated and his style fit in with them.
Personally, my thinking was he was an admiral. He listen to his staff's recommendations and go from there. They shouldn't have had a worry as to him being the task force commander.

Mid-way was a great victory. Luck, fortune, and good timing were all in abundance during the battle. Of course, the fighting men who went after the enemy were the heroes but those timing, luck, and fortune were in abundant amount during the battle.

Kinda stopped the Japanese in their tracks Brother Dale. Thank God it wasn't the other way around.
