The musicians are showing their true integrity. They are willing to do what needs done to show they do not support the rhetoric being spewed by the far right.

The interesting thing in regard to musicians on Spotify is the results of their boycott. Traditionally, a boycott is designed to reduce the sales of the business being boycotted with no cost to the boycotters. In this case, those boycotting Spotify are reducing their own income since they get paid per play

If you take the time to study how they're getting paid, it takes multiple plays just to earn a penny. By publicly renouncing spotify they aren't losing much, and it causes younger folks to look them up elsewhere and maybe play a tune or two. There is no such thing as bad publicity.

Boycotts are stupid and they have nothing to do with one's integrity. How many of them have actually listened to the show? I'll bet none. Integrity is not earned by pressuring others to silence people. Respect, however, is earned by listening to different points of view (regardless of whether you agree with them) and respectfully debating those view with your own. From there let others decide who has all the right facts and makes the better argument. I don't debate people to change their minds, I debate them to help others who haven't made up their mind to make a more informed decision. If I happen to change the mind of those I debate, that's simply a bonus.
This COVID debate is turning out to be very one sided when it comes to the government and certain members of the scientific community. As this goes on, we see reports from those same scientists admitting to withholding information so as not to, as they say, "cause a panic," only to see the information released anyway. Other scientists are even claiming they are being pressured not to present their findings for fear of getting ostracized from the community, ultimately losing their jobs and resources. Result? Distrust in the government and members in the scientific community. My point... If someone wants to present bat shit crazy information, let them! And then challenge it with facts or a better argument. Put the debate on the stage rather than hide it. Neal Young has most likely never listened to a single Joe Rogan show. Instead of challenging Rogan's information he opted to use his unremarkable reputation to pressure a content provider to silence someone who happens to present both sides of the argument on his show. By the way, I am now a new subscriber to Spotify as they are the ones who demonstrated integrity by continuing to honor the deal they've made with Rogan.

As I’ve said before, unless someone is posting or streaming illegal activity, let them. In fact, take the illegal content and just report it. Let us see the idiots and/or other points of view and decide how we want to judge them. If people want to post crude, racist, stupid content, it will lead to allowing us to see people for who they really are. Take the spice company that essentially called all GOP members racist and then lost 40k subscribers. No one had to tell others to boycott or censor them. We simply read the news and decide we don’t want to do business with people who call us racist. Instead of censoring we should be advertising the stupidity. Neal Young, as he did back in the 70s, painted a broad stoke and took a chance on his reputation and popularity. He lost. Not just because he’s wrong, but because he demanded censorship. Had he just left Spotify without giving Spotify an ultimatum, he would look as stupid as he does right now.

People seem to believe that hiding content they do not agree with somehow makes it go away but in reality it pushes them underground where no one can control them.

Look at the Whoopi Goldberg situation. Do I want her cancelled? No! I want the world to hear her stupidity and decide whether they want to continue watching the View or not. I choose not to watch, but that's my position, and I don't feel the need to tell others to stop watching as well. If they want to listen to their crap, have at it.
