Thanks for reminding us TSgt Joe C. the sad historical news that future President Theodore Roosevelt’s wife Alice Lee and his mother Mittie both died on Valentines Day 1884.
That must have been doubly heart-breaking.

Joe, it is an ill wind that blows no good. Read other day that Ted's grief lead him to seek solace in wilderness. That wilderness included meeting with a fellow by the name of John Muir at someplace called Yosemite. Seems being surrounded by our mother, Nature, gave him strength and ultimately lead to our national parks, the greatest creation of our nation in many peoples' view.

The Roosevelt's had a long history in New York TSgt Joe C.. My reserve center was the Theodore Roosevelt Reserve Center and they had his medals including the Medal of Honor on display there. A Roosevelt was also NYC Police Commissioner.
