This is terrible, I think, for active military families who shop at post commissaries, and vets who have a government card, like myself who shops at commissaries.
A new report found budget neutrality cannot be reached through store closures unless the commissary system is shut down completely.
Shutting down all U.S. military commissaries is the only way for the system to operate without any cost to taxpayers, according to a new Defense Department report — a move officials say they don’t want to do.

Take just a portion of the savings and increase the monthly BAS. The rest would just be a reduction in taxes needed to run the government.

Isn't that funny because I constantly hear the line that "All the money spent on base stays on base"... so if that's truly the case, why do they need to cut costs.

Maybe it's costing too much to maintain them, which would come out of taxpayers pockets. I hate to see it. Evidentially our military is in worse shape than we're being told.
