Thanks for sharing February 17 in history Maj Marty Hogan
For me the 1814 signing of the Treaty of Ghent - officially ending the war of 1812 bi=u t not all fights is significant.
Additionally the Eniwetok atoll invasion in 1944 is significant. "During World War II, U.S. forces invade Eniwetok Atoll, encountering little initial resistance from Imperial Japanese troops. The Americans secured the atoll less than a week later."
Throughout the western pacific, small islands and atolls needed to be secured to secure and or flank Japanese lines of communication and assets. The names of these island groups and atolls from Guadalcanal to Tarawa and Iwo Jima were foreign to most Americans abut bitterly familiar to those who fought and died there.

There certainly was a wide historical assortment today, from the beginning of the 19th century into the 21st century. Thanks for the history!
