Thanks for reminding us SP5 Mark Kuzinski that on October 24, 1954 President Dwight David Eisenhower "wrote to South Vietnamese President Ngo Dinh Diem and promised direct assistance to his government. Eisenhower made it clear to Diem that U.S. aid to his government during Vietnam’s “hour of trial” was contingent upon his assurances of the “standards of performance [he] would be able to maintain in the event such aid were supplied.” Eisenhower called for land reform and a reduction of government corruption."
Unfortunately we were not satisfied with the speed or breadth of Diem's reforms so we allowed him to be assassinated about a decade later.

Sorry Roger - I have been out of town and a bit behind. The camel never had a chance.

Whats amazing is that we constructed the "trap" that we watched the French enter. We saw the desired result (end of French colonial aspirations) and then saw the bonus result (loss of French blood and treasure) and yet **STILL** jumped headfirst into it.
