I'm sorry for the loss of our soldier and the wounding of others in the community. I read on rallypoint yesterday that's Special Operations Command was thinking of putting less emphasis in Africa. I know these men and women have been burned out from too many missions but is this a big mistake? Case in point, provincial reconstruction team Farah in Western Afghanistan near the Iranian border in a corridor of opium traffic was closed a few years back.
A month ago, the Farah provincial government was under attack by Taliban and almost overrun. I have seen videos of my former PRT being on enemy video abandoned. Shouldn't we stay the course? All our efforts in the million dollars that I spent, in 2008-2009 as a Commander's Emergency Response Team member of a civil affairs civil-military operations center appears to have all been in vain. Nature abhors a vacuum and often when we leave, there will be a vacuum and it may be taken up by Taliban or Isis evildoers.

Air Force A-10s called in to hold off Taliban attack on major Afghan city
Air Force A-10 Warthogs are over Farah city, Afghanistan, in an attempt to prevent the city’s fall to Taliban forces during the first major assault against a provincial capital since the Taliban began their annual fighting season.

Thank you for sharing LTC Steve Mannell "During an operation June 8, 2018, in Jubaland, Somalia, one U.S. Special Operations member was killed and four U.S. service members and one partner force was wounded as the result of an enemy attack. Names are being withheld pending next of kin notification. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the service members."
A large force consisting of approximately 800 forces from the Somali National Security Forces (SNSF), and Kenyan Defense Force (KDF) "were conducting a multi-day operation approximately 350 kilometers southwest of Mogadishu when the attack occurred. The mission's objectives were to clear al-Shabaab from contested areas, liberate villages from al-Shabaab control, and establish a permanent combat outpost designed to increase the span of Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) security and governance. The U.S. provided advice, assistance and aerial surveillance during the mission.
The FGS is dedicated to restoring peace and stability to the Somali people, and the U.S. supports those efforts. This mission was specifically designed to increase the FGS’s ability to provide vital government services to innocent civilians living under al-Shabaab’s rule. The population in the region had historically supported the government, and the Somali forces had prepared for this mission by coordinating heavily with and securing the support of local authorities ahead of time."
