Thanks TSgt Joe C. for reminding us that Gen. Douglas MacArthur and the American 6th Army landed on the Lingayen Gulf of Luzon.
[The date was October 20, 1944 not January 09, 1945.]
This was thanks to a Admiral Bull Halsey who allowed him to fulfill his promise to the Philippine people to return to that nation after he left the fortress of Corregidor Island in January 1942.
On October 20, 1944, at around 4:00 p.m., Philippine Field Marshal Douglas MacArthur, together with President Sergio Osmeña of the Commonwealth government-in-exile, landed on the shores of Red Beach, Palo, Leyte. MacArthur, recalling his “I shall return” announcement on March 21, 1942,
