What's the holdup then? So what if it was earmarked for older disasters and is sitting in an account somewhere drawing interest, folks along the eastern seaboard need relief now. It's the budget game we all know, spend all you money before the end of the fiscal year and then ask for more in the next budget.

There have bee rumors they didn't. It turns out that once again we have been victimized by misinformation. "No money is being diverted from disaster response needs. FEMA’s disaster response efforts and individual assistance is funded through the Disaster Relief Fund, which is a dedicated fund for disaster efforts,” FEMA said in its post. “Disaster Relief Fund money has not been diverted to other, non-disaster related efforts.”
FEMA added: “FEMA has enough money right now for immediate response and recovery needs. If you were affected by Helene, do not hesitate to apply for disaster assistance as there is a variety of help available for different needs.”
