Lt Col Charlie Brown I see they are making provisions for those who can't get checking accounts at least. Direct deposit is so much more convenient.

Unfortunately Lt Col Charlie Brown, my credit union requires a member to have a certain amount of funds before you can send money directly from one account to another one electronically. I used to be able to send money that way to my sister when she was working, but now the only money she has is her SS.
Because she doesn’t have a certain balance I can’t just send the money electronically, thus I have to rely on the mail to get a check there.

Maj Robert Thornton - I remember when 2ndBn,1st Marines was changing over to direct deposit. Compliance was not going well as far as the Battalion SgtMaj was concerned. He decided he would handle paper check pay call. The designated location was held at the top of the ridgeline West of Camp Horno (home of the 1st Marine Regt within Camp Pendleton), about 2 clicks of uphill switchbacks, (serious uphill).

Battalion Sergeant Majors know how to win over the troops Maj John Bell! I expect that they are as crafty ever.

The only problem I ever had with direct deposit was related to the way the government does it for banks with more than one customer getting deposits. The government electronically sends a list of all the names/accounts/amounts and separately sends a single transfer of the total amount to the bank. The list goes out a day or more before the official pay date, then the money goes out on the official date. That's how some places let you get your direct deposit early while other places won't credit your account until the money actually arrives.
Only had a problem once, but somehow the list was sent correctly so my bank credited my account, then the electronic transfer of the money didn't arrive when it was supposed to so the bank took the deposit back, then they credited it again the next day after everything got straightened out. Fortunately I wasn't (quite) living paycheck-to-paycheck so nothing bounced - in fact I only found out about it when the paper notices from the bank arrived in the mail a few days later.

MSG Thomas Currie There Marine Corps forced Direct Deposit on us in 85. Many of us didnt want it as we still had pay call and got cash in hand. Back then we only got whole dollar amounts and the change was carried over to the next pay period.
Well, some Marine figured out how to steal the change. He got well over a million dollars before he was caught.
