It is sad when any service member dies in the line of duty, but this death seems both tragic and useless. There isn't much information about what happened in any of the articles beyond "when the Stryker she was traveling in merged onto Autobahn 93 and was hit by the civilian vehicle" with the other vehicle being identified as a German semi.
I'm pretty familiar with the Stryker RV - it's no tank, but it is somewhat armored, everyone else in the vehicle were unharmed. I assume she was riding in the commander's hatch and may have been thrown out by the impact. The accident is apparently still under investigation, but anyone who has ever commanded a military vehicle and has ever "merged onto" the autobahn knows where this is headed.
