Commanders are prohibited from using armed guards, and as a Federal Installation you cannot carry your private weapons either. Reserve centers are very soft targets, there are plenty of Soldiers and equipment including weapons there, but no ammunition or at least very, very limited quantities. The response is based on local police forces. Classic case of known problem and your hands are tied.

Fort Drum did a good job. Is this a concern? Yes. Do I like Alan West? Often. Does he like to blow things out of proportion to make points. Often. Moderation. We should all react in moderation. That installation would hopefully do things differently if the threat level was raised. That center is not Jalalabad. Cmon Mr. West.

Ha! Yes indeed, Mr. West does tend to get a little dramatic. I think he makes a valid point though. I did an AC/RC gig and the NG Armory I worked in was completely unguarded, anyone could drive right up next to the buildings and enter the facility.

I think we do a fairly good job on active installations but there are still some cracks that could be exploited.

Shouldn't this be titled "What Allen West witnessed...."
Sound like you actually saw something .. that you in fact .. did not.

I don't know, I think he has a good point. He probably made it more dramatic than he needed too but when something happens to a Reserve Center or Armory because of lack of security....the media will have a field day.
