Wichita mother turns grief for stillborn daughter into life's work for others

Have you heard about Bridget’s Cradles?

I have found a new volunteer activity that has really grown in the last few months. It was featured in “Parents” magazine, the local news, and covers about 400 hospitals across the country. I have been blessed to be a part of this memorable project.
It was started by 1. One mother who lost her baby before she was born. Too small for hospital blankets. “Bridget’s” Cradles was created. Then shared. They come from across the country, knitted and crochet by volunteers. Finish work is done in the Wichita area. And then they are sent back out.

The disasters that wiped out many hospitals wiped out the supply they had and requests were flooding in.

In High School, my parents forced me to take Home Ec. I hated the sewing part and already knew how to cook. Afterwards, my expectation was I would never sew again.

Then I saw a little article for a community workgroup. I went. I am a finisher. I sew on the crosses, the charms, bits of something to make each special. I will never meet the family who receives one I have worked on. Perhaps you know someone who has one, you need one, or know someone who knows someone. I lost 3 babies while on active duty, put my uniform on and went to work.
