MAJ John Lavin - Sir, you might be interested in this:
10 U.S. Code § 246 - Militia: composition and classes

(a)The militia of the United States consists of all able-bodied males at least 17 years of age and, except as provided in section 313 of title 32, under 45 years of age who are, or who have made a declaration of intention to become, citizens of the United States and of female citizens of the United States who are members of the National Guard.

(b)The classes of the militia are—
(1)the organized militia, which consists of the National Guard and the Naval Militia; and
(2)the unorganized militia, which consists of the members of the militia who are not members of the National Guard or the Naval Militia.

This puts to rest any suggestion that the National Guard is the unorganized militia. The "reasonable person test" also prevails, in that, why would the Framers allow the centralized government to control an armed local force, after having just defeated a strong centralized force? The Framers were very much afraid of a powerful central government that could control the ability of the populace to protect itself against tyranny.

Is there any proof anywhere that specifically proves the “protect itself against tyranny” issue that is always quoted when discussing what the 2nd Amendment means actually was ever discussed by anyone? I’ve tried to find a historical reference to it but I’ve never been able to find it.

I live in a state that historically had the highest per capital gun ownership ratio in this country. Everyone owned a hunting rifle because everyone went hunting. But no one owned anything but single shot rifles that maybe had a 3 round magazine. No one owned a hand gun except the police. No one owned a gun they carried around in their purses. No one collected guns. Gun sales were private and magazines never had gun ads in them even the most ardent hunting story magazines. No one ever thought of a gun as a form of self protection. And no one ever mentioned their guns except to their hunting buddies just before and maybe just after hunting season. Then things changed and I never could quite understand why.

I am always prepared for a home invasion at any time of day or night. If one were to persist, the green laser dot on your chest is your last chance to re-think and leave.

SSG Roger Ayscue I just can't carry a 9mm. Mr. Colt and Mr. Ruger would be unhappy.

LTC Trent Klug - I bought the new military SIG M-17. It is a fine pistol and loaded with "ARX Inceptor" frangible ammunition is a formidable sidearm. The Inceptor (that is how it is spelled) is a frangible round that is grooved to cause almost a ballistic fragmentation. The SIG is a great replacement for the M-9
