Why do officers treat us lower enlisted like slaves almost?
Not wanting to complain but today at our unit we had a change of command. And all these officers and people were there. We only had 30 minutes to set up 50 chairs, camel nets, podium and sound system. There were a bunch of us lower enlisted and a couple of e-5, e-6 and e-7s all leaders were helping us and one lieutenant whose earned my respect. We barely got everything set up in time and we skipped breakfast. The officers and senior NCOS were just looking at us like we were crazy and saying stuff like, “what took you guys long” and stuff like that. I really wanted to tell them “sir, if you’re complaining so much then why don’t help us. A real leader bleeds with his soldiers” but then I don’t want to get UCMJ Lol. Anyways after all that mess was over with they were giving gator aid, drinks, and food to the officers but not us. Is the army really that bad in other units or maybe with age comes with rank and with rank comes with power?

Learn from the experience and be a better leader. This shouldn’t have happened, but take it with you and let it motivate you to take care of your soldiers so they don’t feel the way you do right now.

Piss poor planning on their part. They forgot about the one thirds 2/3 rule. One-third the time is for them to plan but they should have given you a warno or heads up of what they want. Then they should have given you enough time(the 2/3s rule) to get it done. Not all officers and Senior NCOs are very smart. I am sorry you had to suffer. change of commands are stressful enough as it is. sometimes, when you have bad leaders, you become a good leader yourself and you know what NOT to do. Here is a good example of a leader that cares about his people..... I know a Major who was, years ago, an aide-de-camp to an American 1 star General in Iraq . The General was an Army Reserve one-star and also a professor at a college. When he flies, he has two helicopters. When he was leaving from one base to the other, he called the helicopters back to the Air Terminal. The aide-de-camp went and looked to see who needed a flight to another base. Purposely, he didn't pick the lieutenant colonel's and full bird colonels who wanted to fly, he purposely chose the E-5 and below waiting longer and or less of a priority.
Those high-ranking officers were upset, but they couldn't pull rank or show a sore Papa because it was the one star doing the favor to the junior enlisted. Those soldiers freaked out when they filled up both helicopters full of a bunch of soldiers and a couple realized that a one-star general was sitting right across from them. The one-star general cared about soldiers. Some people do care. This is a true story. I hope this helps.

I’ve dealt with a number of generals and most of them were very gracious, friendly, and approachable.. at least when it came to us flight crews. There were a couple here and there that were jerks, but for the most part they were pretty awesome.

I’m only a Sgt... but all my teammates got the same treatment i did. Oddly enough, officers on the team worked & sweat with the rest of us... only difference being ‘Sir’...
But we were a special case maybe... small teams working & living closely while deployed...
