Good Red Friday morning, Rallypoint. Today's Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) is titled "Spiral Galaxy NGC 1350." We head back to the Southern Hemisphere this morning to the constellation Fornax. NGC 1350 is approximately 85 million light years from Earth, and is about 130,000 light years across (making it somewhat larger than our Milky Way). I've seen it described as both a spiral and a barred-spiral galaxy. FWIW I'm in the spiral camp. The blue hue in both the outer and inner rings suggest active star formation. The source of the image is not specified, but given the target and its clarity I suspect it came from the ESO in Chilé
