13-15 Feb. 1951: The 2d Inf. Div.'s 23d Inf. Regt. and attached French Inf. Bn., supported by a field artillery battalion, ADA battalion, engineer battalion, and Ranger company, stopped China's furthest penetration to the south at Chipyong-ni.

Led by Col. Paul Freeman, some 4,500 UN troops managed to stem the Chicom torrent in a bloody confrontation that left 51 GIs and French dead, some 250 wounded, and 41 missing against as many as 2,000 Chinese killed, 3,000 wounded, and 79 captured from a force believed to have been 25,000 strong.

They singlehandedly caused the Chinese to rethink their strategy and brought them to the table to begin peace talks.

They did a great job, and I'm glad I was not in the Korean war, as it was brutal fighting PLUS the cold.
