I had to reach back in the old bag of Christmas photos to post this little incident today. The guy in the Photo is my Son in Law, and this was way back when they only had the one child. He is now in his forties....and sick, just like me. But a little further along the healing curve.
So since everything has been moved to his house, my Kathy (God Bless her organized soul, and ability to "Load Chart" anything) he had to come pick up the truck. A truck stuffed with gifts, sleeping bags, foamies, and other assorted gear to fit four more people into an already crammed full house.
I was wearing my mask and he was standing a good ten feet away, as we traded updates on family and plans. Then he started coughing...so that made me start to cough. And that made him laugh. So he coughed harder. Which ...well, made me laugh...and made me cough harder.
I wonder what the neighbors thought to see a young strong man in the prime of his life, bent over double, red faced, but also blue because he didn't have any air...while an old man, also doubled over, with the same red/blue weird combination. Both laughing so hard they dropped to one knee.
I would look over at him, his eyes would twinkle, and It would start all over again. It is hard to laugh when you can't breathe...but when neither of you can stop laughing ...you cough so hard, you can't breathe that way either.
I am surprised one (or both) of us didn't faint. I know I got dizzy.
But we had to wipe tears from our eyes...and they were sparkling with laughter. Laughter really is the best medicine , even when it is killing you. It was both the weirdest and delightful bonding moment I have ever had with my Son in Law.
He drove away with a big smile and wiping tears from his eyes.
I felt the same way.
Misery loves company...especially if it makes you laugh!
