SSG Robert Mark Odom Not an Impressive Excuse for Shooting People but I would be Disappointed if the Lawyer hadn't Tried that Excuse.

I was just reading this before I came to RP SSG Robert Mark Odom. Hi might well have PTSD but no excuse to shoot innocent civilians. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. My sympathies are with the families of the deceased and not with this soldier.

PTSD had positive effects in my life, Before I became a law enforcement officer, I had to go through a shrink to get evaluated. She told me after our session was over, because you suffer from PTSD, you are the perfect candidate for law enforcement. You just can't blame everything on PTSD, after seeing so many of brothers getting killed and wounded, I prefer to save a life than to take one. It's that simple!! My problems come when I go to sleep at night and jump into the Nam again! My wife is my guardian angle at night!!

That might pass judgement by a jury - even low lying fruit - and may be just another sad story that we can't explain. At face it looks like wires crossed, muscle memory, and training. Unfortunate and tragic.
