More from: "Out of the Mouth of Seniors:"
Well, this one is a little weird. And, of course, it happened at FoodLion today.
I went up to get a few things from the grocery store. I saw a guy about seventy or so...and he was holding the hand of a young woman about mid twenties or early thirties . They were both smiling and chatting easily.
A woman, about fifty or so, walks up to the man and says (Loud enough for me an everyone else in the Produce Section to hear). What they used to call a "Stage Whisper."
"You leave that young lady alone. You stop that right now."
Well, the young lady turned and frowned at the older woman.
The older man smiled.
And just as loud as the fifty year old woman he said:
"One, I have no idea who you are. Two, I know you don't know me, or my daughter. Three, I don't know what you are thinking. But I am not rich. I am not her Sugar Daddy, just her Daddy. And I haven't had an erection in a decade."
Well, the young lady had to cover her mouth- she was laughing so hard. She would gasp out a "Dad!" and then choke laughing again.
The Fifty year old woman turned beat red. I mean she looked like the proverbial tomato...and she scurried (and now I know how that word is to be used properly) away at high speed. There was laughter throughout the produce section.
The guy went back to talking to his daughter.
And I had a strange thought.
When did we start to project our inner thoughts onto complete strangers. And since when is it okay to accuse complete strangers off of no other information than what was drifting around in your own head.
Does: "Mind your own business." Not apply anymore? Especially when you don't know either of the people you are accusing of doing something shady?
He didn't get mad. He just stated the facts and embarrassed that gossip hound in front of everyone.
I wish I could think that fast, and not get emotional right away. I think up good rebuttals on the way home with no one in the car.

SGT Kevin Hughes I have seen and been the object of racial insults (mixed black and white couples). But we were not couples, in any instance. At the time, the I dustry I worked in was predominately Caucasian. As you referred to the "nerd" factor, that was the case. The same as you, I could not think of a good tongue lashing, on the fly.

Cpl Vic Burk - Yep, one of the good things about having travelled, is you find out right away...people are just people. Good ones, bad ones, smart ones, stupid ones, kind ones and cruel ones...every culture on Earth has them all.

Thanks Gene, I hope you are having a good day today. I think that lady watches too many of those "Housewife" type shows. And I will remember her face...just in case. LOL
