This is the same old argument that has been ongoing for far too many years.
One extreme side says "Ban all firearms."
The other extreme side says "Arm everybody."

Is there not a logical compromise?

MSG Stan Hutchison - I absolutely agree, if you know you aren't mentally prepared to take a human life, should it become legally necessary, be responsible and don't get a firearm. It is a weapon, not a piece of jewelry or a conversation piece. I strongly suspect that many of those who answered "yes" to your reasonable and responsible question as an FFL, weren't actually mentally prepared. That doesn't change my previous response. The majority of armed teachers who think they can, will never be tested. Will more die or be saved by a decision either way? Anyone with an answer is speculating.

Maj John Bell - The worst answer I got from most customers was "I just want the gun to scare the bad guy with."

MSG Stan Hutchison - I'm sure there are stats on how many people are killed by an assailant who took their weapon from them. How do you collect stats on criminals who decided to look for an easier, less risky victim. Same as before, any answer to the latter is pure speculation.

Maj John Bell - Quite so. As Forbes pointed out in a previous article about the 'gun debate' (https://www.forbes.com/sites/paulhsieh/2018/03/20/any-study-of-gun-violence-should-include-how-guns-save-lives)

"“[E]ffective defensive gun use need not ever lead the perpetrator to be wounded or killed. Rather, to assess the benefits of self-defense, one needs to measure crime and injury averted. The particular outcome of an offender is of little relevance.”

We don’t judge whether the police are doing a good job by the numbers of criminals they kill each year, but rather by how well they stop crime. The same should be true in judging the effectiveness of civilian DGUs.

The exact number of DGUs is not precisely known. There are reasons to think the actual number may be higher or lower than the figures cited (between 500,000 and 3 million)."

A more recent study (from 2022), the 2021 National Firearms Survey, puts the number of DGU at 1.67 million annually.

Absolutely shocking!
Amazing to learn that a teacher was a human being and capable of irrational behavior!
But somehow anti-gun liberals are even more shocked to discover that the No Guns sign on the door failed to stop this teacher from bringing a gun to school, while anyone with an IQ above room temperature realizes that once a person has decided to commit assault with a deadly weapon or murder, they are unlikely to be deterred by some sign.

A $37000 bond for threatening to shoot up a preschool? Something is markedly wrong here. They better find some armed guards, this deranged woman is back in the streets.

The deranged woman is a teacher at the school that she threatened to shoot up.

LTC Eugene Chu - That is true, but by the logic of "there's a teacher who brought a gun to school and threatened to shoot others" should somehow affect the debate about arming teachers is as sensible as saying "someone with a gun illegally shot someone, so there needs to be more restrictions on people that follow laws".

Both are nonsensical arguments.

SFC John D. - Of course that argument is ridiculous, but it is all that the anti-gun liberals have so they continue to use it -- and people continue to fall for it.

LTC Eugene Chu and your point? My point is it doesn’t matter what she is, she shouldn’t have been let out on a ridiculously low bail. She should either still be in jail or in a facility to determine her mental status.
This has nothing to do with arming teachers that have been vetted and trained to carry.
