APOD: 2020 September 7 - The Milky Way over St Michaels Mount

Good morning, Rallypoint. Today's Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) is titled "The Milky Way over St Michael's Mount." St Michael's Mount (Cornish: Karrek Loos yn Koos, meaning "hoar rock in woodland") is a tidal island in Mount's Bay, Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. Linked to the town of Marazion the man-made causeway of granite setts seen in the foreground, the castle and chapel have been the home of the St Aubyn family since approximately 1650.

Historically, St Michael's Mount is a Cornish counterpart of Mont-Saint-Michel in Normandy, France. It was given to the Benedictine religious order of Mont Saint-Michel by Edward the Confessor in the 11th century.

St Michael's Mount is one of 43 unbridged tidal islands that one can walk to from mainland Britain. The foreground and background images of this featured composite were taken on the same July night and from the same location. Jupiter (to the left) will be prominent in the evening sky until December.
