The man who posted this on YouTube, is called: Joe Scott, the answer man.
I watch his videos regularly. Since we have so many Hunters here on RP, I thought you might want to check this one out. He lists the Five most Deadly animals, that hunt you!
Funnily enough, Polar Bears were not on the list, simply because their body count wasn't high enough to qualify. Not because they won't hunt you given the chance.
And for you Vietnam Vets, I wonder if the Cape buffalo in Africa is related to the Water Buffalo in Vietnam? Are they cousins with the same disposition? Any of your stories about encounters would be wonderful!
So I learned a lot from this short 21 minute video. But the thing that just flabbergasted me, was about the Grizzly. I spent ten summers in Alaska, so I know those guys could hit 1,200 pounds or more. Mostly because they had salmon treats.
What I did not know, is that the Colorado Grizzlies, are "only" four to seven hundred pounds. Not having fish, makes them quite a bit smaller. But here is the thing...those Colorado Grizzlies get their protein from...well, are you ready for this? I sure wasn't.
MOTHS.
Yes, Moths. They eat 40,000 of them a day. Are you kidding me? All the rest of their diet is mostly berries and nuts.
So if you have a spare twenty minutes or so. Or if you are an experienced Hunter- and have been to Africa on Safari...what do you think of his list?
And I do have a Wild Pig story of my own. And there is a reason killing a Boar in Germany is part and parcel of their great epic poems and Heroes.
As for me, squirrels are enough to make me run.

I Have Hunted In North America, Europe And Africa And The Most Dangerous Animals I Have Encountered Are Not Mammals !
Insects, Arachnids And Snakes Are More Dangerous.
I Have Suffered From Mosquito Bites That Caused Malaria And Been Bitten By A Rattlesnake.
I Was On A Safari In Zimbabwe And A Hunter In Camp Got Bitten By A Snake And Was Dead In About Fifteen Minutes.
Large Animals That You Can See Or Hear Are Easier To Defend Against.
Smaller Can Sometimes Be More Deadly.

No doubt abut that James. Mosquitos are, by far, the deadliest "animal" on the planet, but they are insects...as you pointed out. If he had said: But he kept it to animals we hunt. I guess in a way, we do hunt mosquitoes, because I kill any of those little buzzards that land on me. The problem is you can' usually feel them until they have bitten you. And man oh man, I hope the malaria you got, isn't the kind that comes back years later.

SPC James Neidig - Darn it James. My buddy had that kind. It stayed dormant for like thirty years and then bam. And he suffers when it hits. I swear growing old is not for sissies, to quote that famous movie star who coined that phrase. Hoping your meds work, and you have pain free days!

I think the Cape Buffalo is a wild animal while the Water Buffalo is a domesticated animal for the most part Brother Kevin. And about those Alaska Grizzlies compared to the Colorado Grizzlies, well I would think the ones from Colorado are sissies. Eating moths? Give me a break.

SGT Kevin Hughes - Actually, after watching the video, apparently the Grizzley's can eat up to 40,000 of the Army Cutworm moth larvae and they DO eat salmon. He never did say were they find that many Moth larvae.

PO3 Edward Riddle - Hey Ed, yeah, I meant that they don't have access to herds of salmon like the Alaskan Bears do. But I bet they get some good trout! Remember Ed, I am a city kid...so if the facts are a little off, it is because of me. Heck I still think I am young.
