Lt Col Charlie Brown That's an interesting article. I can't say I ever gave it much thought how Christmas it celebrated in other countries. I went overseas but didn't bring anything back related to how I celebrate Christmas.
On another note, over the years I have gotten almost bitter about the Christmas holiday due to its commercialism. Sometimes I wonder if people even know what Christmas is really about other than a day to get presents. When I see a commercial that says, "Show you loved one how much you love them by giving them a diamond this Christmas." If you have to buy a $5,000 diamond to show them you love them you have a problem with your relationship! My rant! LOL!

I also find it annoying when it's barley out of summer and commercial products for Christmas are already being pushed. Even before Thanksgiving that takes a lot away from the Christmas holiday spirt. Putting up outdoor lights in warmer pre December cold is fine as a practical manner before for instance the ground freezes etc. but much of the rest is overkill. Over the years My wife and I got so much collected junk I'd rather not add to our own mess but still give at present to the Grand Children.(whom aren't little kids anymore either)

I bought My wife a diamond ring once over 48 years ago to show I loved her, I've bought other things but not another diamond ring and not for anywhere near what that had cost. Both of us have enough junk around We don't want to add even more.

SMSgt Lawrence McCarter - Yes, we USED TO have three big holidays at the end of the year, leading into a fourth holiday at the start of the new year. Now the Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas merchandise all hits the store at the same time -- barely after the last of the summer stuff has hit the clearance shelves to make room for it.
Of course having one big celebration isn't such a bad idea, but it's just that we haven't figured out how to do it right. The Germans are much better at celebrating... getting drunk for Octoberfest and not really sobering up until the end of Fasching so they can have an appropriate hangover throughout Lent.

Lt Col Charlie Brown this article reminds me of something I heard at a veterans gathering or a speech; "on Christmas Day all of the shooting stopped and every soldier in his tongue sang Christmas songs". That was profound.

I haven't adopted a single one. My great grandparents on my dad's side emigrated from Denmark. There was no rockin' around the Christmas tree by them or my grandmother.
