Anybody remember the run dodge and jump on the army pt test
We also did monkey bars (I'm sure they were called something other than monkey bars). Anybody remember that? Other parts of the five-event Army PT test of old?

As I recall, the first PT Test I took included the run (can't remember the distance); run, dodge and jump; low crawl; horizontal ladder; and grenade throw.

That would have been a one mile run at the time those were the five event PT test.

The Run, Dodge & Jump and the Grenade Throw were the two events that were at least reasonably related to actual combat performance -- so, of course, those were the events that the Army eliminated. First they dropped the Grenade Throw in early 1968, then they dropped the RD&J a few years later.

CW5 (Join to see) , there was the Run,Dodge,Jump; Horizontal Ladder; Inverted (Perverted) Crawl; Sit Ups; Push Ups; and the 2 (1 mile non combat arms) mile run. That was the old PT Test and you should remember that Monty. Shame on you. LOL

Actually, that was one that I liked. Infantry originally created it with packs, weapons, ammo as part of bayonet practice!

The problem was it was too expensive to get troops to the course to train. The one can be done anywhere.

You mean the Trip, Stumble and Fall?

Also accompanied by the Bent-Leg Throw-Up and the Perverted Crawl?

S5w manuevering room
No, but I still remember the Run, Duck and Dodge from the Bow Compartment to Maneuvering after hearing the 1MC blast out "Reactor Scram! Reactor Scram! All Engineering Department personnel Lay Aft!"

Does that count?

CW5 (Join to see),

After reading your post, I was curious about the Run, Dodge and Jump test so I googled it and this video came up. It's fascinating to see how basic combat training was conducted in the old days!

Great video, SGT (Join to see)! We still did some of that in 1975, but instead of low crawl, I believe we had crab crawl. I remember the gorilla drills well. And I enjoyed the obstacle course and wish we had done it more often.

Thanks again. That was probably a little before my time, but very close to what I experienced.

I went through basic late in 1975. The facilities for the run dodge and jump were still used in training, and so was the horizontal ladder, but they weren't part of the pt test. Just appetizers for chow call. Since the M14 was still being issued we were issued the M14 on arrival and exchanged them for the M16 later on. The M16 was used for qualification. The pt test consisted of 5 elements scoring 100 points each. Push ups 1 minute 100 points max. Sit ups 1 minute 100 points max. Pull ups 100 points max. Inverted crawl 1 minute 100 points max. And 1 mile clocked run 100 points max.

Sorry, typo. Thread about service member up for execution after opening up on friendly troops had me somewhat aggravated. Kind of hard to focus when you're uncertain whether a firing squad, lethal injection, hanging, or pitting his gizzard and thin slicing his pr!c!<, is the most appropriate.

add RUN, DODGE & JUMP I always threw up after completing the RDJ cyle, too much lactic acid build up. That's the hardest aerobic exercise during that time

I think I got thrown from my horse on the way to that one. Ruined a perfectly good Stetson and bent my saber.
