I just saw "A Royal Night Out" . . . a delightfully marvelous UK 2015 movie . . . that made me giggle and laugh and cry . . . far more than any film in recent memory. Can someone please identify the uniform, cap, and vehicle . . . because I really want to play the part to the hilt at a period costume party in the very near future. If you have leads on where to get an original in good condition or reasonably accurate replica please advise. Warmest Regards, Sandy :) :) :)

p.s. Sarah Gadon portrayed the Young Pricess Elizabeth . . . heir to the UK throne . . . incognito . . . at large among her people . . . on the night and early morning of VE Day.

The badges / devices / pins for the cap and collars are giving me a bit of trouble. The uniform is for the Women's Auxiliary Territorial Service . . . and QE II wore the ATS cap badge and collar devices in some photographs . . . but the actress portraying QE II in the film wore cap badges and collar devices featuring a horse head surrounded by a laurel wreath topped with a crown layered over what appears to be two crossed lances / pikes / spears. I am wondering whether this may be a Scottish military organization badge. Warmest Regards, Sandy :) :) :)

1LT Sandy Annala, I looked at number of websites with British cap badges & could find nothing similar to the badge worn by the actress. Perhaps some artistic license? Capt Tom Brown

LTC Stephen C. - I have a note into the British embassy mission - maybe they can sort this one out. If not - may call the mod whitehall - or the producers. Design looks historic to me - maybe mixture of British and Scigush elements, Warmest Regards, Sandy :)

Sorry 1LT Sandy Annala I got stuck looking at the actresses face like I do yours and was totally distracted, never saw any devices. I really have a hard enough time keeping up with USN devices, let alone British WWII, BUT I have asked a friend of mine who served in the British Navy. If he ever stops drinking rum and gets back to me I will let you know what he says.

Perhaps the production company could clear this up -- was it a one-off for the film?

1LT Sandy Annala, I think LTC (Join to see) is right there. From Wikipedia, "In February 1945, Elizabeth II joined the Women's Auxiliary Territorial Service as an honorary second subaltern with the service number of 230873. She trained as a driver and mechanic and was promoted to honorary junior commander five months later." I don't know about the auto.

LTC Stephen C. - You can't often go wrong with Wikipedia in this day and age. With that info Sandy should be able to canvass the costume stores in and around DC for something very similar if not an exact replica.

1LT Sandy Annala I've searched high and low for the badges and insignia that you showed below with no luck. I did find the ATS Official Badge that was worn on the women's uniforms and this great website below. I'm wondering if they made up the insignia. All the official uniforms show the following pictures

Sometimes I think producers take a little liberty just to separate reality from a movie costume by creating such a piece. As a reenactor, I noticed that when a photographer changes the photo of reenactors to sepia and share it then someone will pass it off as a CDV photo. We usually have to find the photographer with the color to disprove them. This is one example of such reenactors: http://civilwarbaptists.com/thisdayinhistory/1862-march-27/
