This, is a huge debate which is garnering protests and hard questions, not only from Americans, but also France, Russia, and some of our allies. They don't understand Obama's stance on terrorism anymore than we do. Our country is being laughed at because of our lack of leadership, or so they think. If anyone understands Obama's strategy, please clue us in. I don't get it, but I'm just a United States citizen, veteran, tax paying voter. That's all. I feel like I'm about as important as a mosquito being smacked. In one part of this article, Obama accuses the Republicans for failing to understand the "grave consequences of sending troops to the volatile region." In my opinion, if Obama doesn't have the stomach to send troops into combat, which will help stop a lot of this terrorism, put someone in that has the guts.
Now for the rest of the story:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ANTALYA, Turkey — President Barack Obama on Monday firmly rejected calls for a shift in U.S. strategy against the Islamic State following the Paris attacks, saying Republicans who want to send ground troops into the volatile region are "talking as if they're tough" but fail to understand the potentially grave consequences.
"Folks want to pop off and have opinions about what they think they would do," Obama said in a news conference wrapping up a two-day summit of world leaders in Turkey. "If they think that somehow their advisers are better than the chairman of my Joint Chiefs of Staff and the folks who are actually on the ground, I want to meet them. And we can have that debate."

Why is this a surprise? The man is a hard-left ideologue living in a world of his own manufacture and is unwilling to acknowledge anything that does not agree with his ideology. He has been that way from day one and has never tried to show any other face. He is absolutely convinced that he is right and is therefore totally uneducable.
He thinks that American power is the primary source for strife in the world and is determined not to use it under any circumstance.
Obama is this century’s Neville Chamberlain.

Obama is anything but a hard left ideologue. The position of POTUS is not compatible with candidates of far leaning ideology. At some point there will need to be regular ground troops in Iraq and Syria but that should be the lead of Arab countries in the region. Why the hell should the US put our people in harms way when people in the neighborhood won't stand up to the bully on the block? Why should we spend our money and resources on their fight? The right is quick to tout fiscal discipline but yet and still are willing to waste all that money defending people who lack the will to fight. Let them sort their own mess. Keep bombing them until the Arabs step up.

SSG (Join to see), you need to take another look at Obama's upbringing and history as well as his policies while in office. His grandparents that raised him were communists; his mentors were all radical communists and anti-colonialist revolutionaries. Read his books for a start.
The man is indeed a hard-left ideologue, unwilling to look at anything that does not agree with his ideology regardless of the results of his policies. He evidently believes that ISIS has been contained and is being destroyed. He has been disconnected from reality by his ideology.

Capt Seid Waddell - Well with that logic Reagan would've been a Democratic president. One's upbringing doesn't necessarily equate to adult perspective. I mean he's 54 years old. He's been willing to commit troops and use force when necessary. He's just not hawkish about it.

SSG (Join to see), actually he has not been willing to commit troops when necessary; he sees American power as the cause of most strife in the world and he has pledged to address this wrong.
He started his administration with an apology tour to the Muslim nations and the EU, he has dissed our traditional allies, and he pulled our troops out of Iraq against the strong objections of our military leaders.
He does not trust the professional military and security forces any more than he respects our police forces. Whenever he puts in troops or takes military action it is always far less than needed and is done very reluctantly when he is forced to do so by public pressure.

He is a lame duck president that does not want to rock the boat, AND DOES NOT WANT TO TAKE A LEADERSHIP ROLE IN THE ME. He is surrounded by people like the SECDEF who has premonitions of a synthesis of the military and corporate world, and a State Department that has vacuous dreams of being relevant.

MAJ Ken Landgren, Thank you for that response. I couldn't have said it any better.

Perhaps the president is a sympathizer of these terrorist organizations? His actions really don't really show him as caring about the American people or the safety of the United States. I'm becoming more skeptical of his actions by the day. He has refused to call many of these acts of terror what they are. He refuses to identify Islamic terrorists or radical Islam as the cause of these terroristic actions.

SSgt Alex Robinson, I've mentioned this to my wife. It's exactly how I feel. I be tried, but I can't see any other reason he's acting the way he does about the ISIS terrorist.

SSgt Alex Robinson I wonder if he listens to his advisors, pays attention to what the majority of Americans want or desire, or if he is so convinced he knows best that no one else could understand his big picture view. We are in greater danger, each day based on these policies.
