I was thinking and I was wondering if MP’s get some kind of badge number like their civilian counterparts

A badge number is the serial number on a piece of equipment, not a police identification number. It's like asking if your S1 gets a printer number

LCpl Benji Smith - Maybe You should get Your act together and go back to the original Question on the post by SPC Gomez just asking if the numbers were used the same way. They at NOT. Being rude and insulting to make Your point also doesn't fly very well and there is nothing wrong with My reading ability. Also SFC Boyd was responding to the original question which was about MP badge numbers. I spent over 40 years Full time between both Military and civilian Police. The point is what is true for the civilian Police Badge Isn't true for the Military bade as to ID. That is all the original question was about which is fine.

My two cents. I was an Active Duty MP during 91 - 01, stationed in 6 duty locations and never was issued a badge. I remember that our badge number was the fist letter of the last name and last four of the SSN. The only ones that I known to have a physical badge or Credentials were MPI and CID. The credentials were for accountable and sensitive items. Currently I am a DA Lead Security guard, where the Dept of the Army Civilian Police have badges that are issued to them and have to be return when they depart.

Actually, a lot of departments issue a badge number to their Officers. I was civilian LE for 20 years. My badge number was my call sign and used on all my paperwork. It was not just a number on a piece of equipment.

Army MP’s don’t even get issued badges if recall correctly. Air Force security forces get badges with badge numbers issued to them.

When I was assigned to the Defense Nuclear Agency in '83 my badge number was D0001, kinda cool. I don't know what they do now.

When MP Badges were issued, SSG's and above kept their badge, but even that was not a number assigned to the PERSON - it was, as you inferred, simply a serial number for accountability. During that time, losing a badge resulted in an SIR (Serious Incident Report) with the shortage so noted on inventory forms.
A few years ago, a retired SGM friend that I served with when we were both SSG's, actually gave me the badge that I wore when I got out of the Army. Far better (to me) than the replicas you can easily obtain today.

All of the badges in AF Security Forces had badge number. Mine was K2554. We often remarked that a true SP would know his badge number, and the grossly gung ho among us would probably try to work it into a post briefing, like the serial number on their service weapon.
Is was just a randomly generated number imprinted at the bottom of the shield, and never meant anything. I'm certain I wasn't the only K2554. Didn't stop me from knowing it, though.

I spent 22 years first Air Police, then Security Police last Security Forces. I have My badges from from My retirement, I'd have to look at them though for the number. I think You will find though there is only one badge of that number. When i first came in We had to physically show the badge once per year and it was accountable and You only got one. If You lost it a DD Form 1569 Incident/Complaint Report had to be written. In later years You could get more than one and no longer had to physically show them and still none of the numbers were the same.

Only time you will even get a badge now is if A. you get MPI or B. you switch from MP to CID.

Most civilian police departments don't give badge numbers. A few like LAPD, NYC, and MPD (Metropolitan Police Department... the DC police) use them, but many don't. They have credential numbers on their IDs, so a lot like out DOD ID numbers.

No. Back when the MP's routinely wore the MP Badge, they had a serial number for accountability; but it was not a "badge number" for identification like some civilian PD's do.

There is a credential number on the optional law enforcement credential. That's the closest thing I can think of.

Army MP’s used to get badges back in the old days in the 80’s in my unit They were kept in the arms room with weapons that you needed a weapons card to get. Numbers were engraved and different from post to post.
