I ETS'd exactly 10 years ago today.
It brings me a lot of sadness considering that I would still be in if it were up to me.
How long have you been out, and if you were capable, would you still be in?

I miss the gun line, the boom, the goose bumps when artillery rounds went off. I miss it because being a civilian sucks big hairy ba*%s
I miss it more just thinking about missing it.

Absolutely ... every day.
I was fortunate to have gone to work, following retirement, with a company where a great many of my former Army friends also work. In addition, our company is one of the most military/veteran-friendly companies in the USA and a vast majority of the people we hire are veterans.

So... which company is that Sir? lol I am looking at retirement in 2018. Still trying to decide if I should retire or stay in. I still like my job, still enjoy mentoring and developing Soldiers, still like being a Soldier. On the other hand all I have to look forward to is staff work for the next 10 years... My first 15 years I was fortunate to be assigned to units at BN level or below.

The company is now called Centerra Group. Many folks still know it as Wackenhut or G4S, although we are now Centerra.
It is the largest security company in the USA (and G4S is the largest in the world). The vast majority of employees are veterans. We have everything from unarmed guards to heavily armed and equipped paramilitary protective forces with helicopters, armored vehicles, etc. that protect some of our country's most sensitive facilities.

I've been out for 5-1/2 years now, and not a day goes by that I don't think of going back in. I miss the army, I miss the feeling of having purpose in my life. I haven't had a job that's made me feel that way since. There's a lot of BS that goes on, but the people you serve with is what makes it

I do with regards to friends and some of the fun I had as both an observer and forecaster but not the silly people who seemed to spend their waking hours being a nuisance. On the other hand, those same types are on the outside as well.

I do miss the ARMY so much, that I find myself wondering where I went wrong and what I could've done to change the course of my history. I am extremely unhappy with my civilian life. There are time I wish I was down range, I don't care if I live or died in the process. Just as long as I was still serving. WHY do I feel like this!? (one sad SSG)

I am a DAV 31B20, I was discharged on 18 Feb 2007, from Fort Drum, NY. I miss everything about the military but most of all I miss the teamwork, the camaraderie, the unity, the family fun while stationed in different areas of the world. I have tried everything there is to get back into the job I loved the most. I sometimes sit and sulk on what I could've said or done to stay in. But I though about my health, one of my 1SG told me he had back issues and that he takes these humongous horse pills to help him get through the pain. I chose to get the medical surgery done for my back and the ARMY sent me packing. WHY!? (One sad SSG)

Retired 17 years ago. Of course I miss it. All the Travel, working with the crème de la crème in computers, communications, electronic and information warfare. Don't miss carrying a "Get out of Jail Free Card" as a DIA Courier "Screw up 10,000 dollars and 10 years in jail" don't miss being responsible for all those codes. For the most part I had a Great Time for 21 years.

Great Question I've only been out a little over a year, but if I was capable I probably would of stayed in. Instead I retired on 31 Mar 13.
