A Marine veteran who fought in Fallujah was attacked by an airman who believed he was lying about serving in the Corps. It happened over the weekend at The Long Shot, an Arden-area bar, according to CBS Sacramento.
The Marine veteran, Michael Delfin says he tried to show the airman his ID, but he believed he was looking for a fight.
“I noticed a guy had a fade and he asked me if I was in the service and he said, ‘Yeah, I’m in the Air Force,’ and I said, ‘Oh I was in the Corps,’” he said.
The airman was looking for an active duty CAC card, but since Delfin was a veteran, he only had this VA card – he was accused of lying about serving on the spot.
“So, I asked him to read my ID, and he was like nahh stolen valor, stolen valor; this guy’s a fake,” he said. “He’s ignorant. He needs to learn how to read an ID, plain and simple,” he said. “When a vet tells you he’s a vet and he’s obviously wearing a fallen brothers bracelet doesn’t even recognize that.”
Things started turning ugly and the Delfin tried leaving, but was jumped in the parking lot by the airman and one of his friends.
“And before I knew it I couldn’t get off the ground. My leg gave out; it was kind of a blur,” Delfin said.
Delfin’s tibia is broken, and his jaw might be too.
“I did over 12 years in the Marine Corps; I was a tracker and I was in combat in 2004 in Fallujah,” he said.
“Because everybody that’s in the service does their job, but when you go to combat it’s a different thing, so to claim on me I’m stolen valor, that’s a slap in every veteran’s face,” he said. “He needs to get caught. He needs to get made an example of, plain and simple.”
Sacramento Police have filed a report, Delfin has also heard from an Air Force investigator.

I’m kind of a mind my own business kind of guy. People who know me, know what I’ve done and where I’ve been. I don’t sit around telling war stories (there I was, knee deep in hand grenades, the enemy charging my position……..) When I hear others doing it, If I think it’s Bull Feces, I just keep it to myself. Who knows, maybe the guy did make a shot that bounced off a camel’s hump, hit the skid of a Huey and caught the enemy in the eye a mile and a half away. I don’t make it a point to care about what a wannbe says much less have a physical fight with them. Sounds like alcohol has a big play in this.

Unless their is income gained by the farce of stolen valor, it does not hurt me. To me someone who purports to be something he is not has a real self image issue. The dishonesty is driven by a sense of inferiority at a high level. If we attacked based on dishonesty on a regular basis, politicians who lie about substantive things would never be without bruises

As a Retired Air Force member and Disabled Veteran, I am appalled at the actions of this Rat Bastard of a Military Service Member. Myself, my Brother and my Father served Honorably and Faithfully... I feel this Airman should be Dishonorably Discharged for Conduct Unbecoming the Uniform and the Service he has disgraced. He has disgraced himself, the Uniform and yes, the Country he is supposed to Serve. I hate the rampant problems we have of people automatically assuming someone is a case of "Stolen Valor" , yes, there are cases of stolen valor, and most of those have been found out without conflict or injury. This Marine has been injured all over again from one or two stupid Individuals that do not deserve to wear the uniform. If I was on the Airman's Court Martial hearing, I would order that he forfeit any pay he is to receive for the next year or so that he will be serving either in Ft. Leavenworth, or in "CC" at his base until he is Booted out on his ass... and all monies he would receive should be placed in an account for the Marine who was attacked to help him cover whatever needs he has until he heals... I have No extra allegiance to the Air Force Uniform more than any other of our Armed Services Brother's and Sister's. Yes, I Loved my time in the Air Force, however, this Puke Stain needs to be made an example of.
I know that may sound like convoluted logic on some level. It is just my honest opinion, I would say the same if it was a Marine who attacked a Navy member. (Sorry, if I upset anyone about my opinion...)

I can think a few Airman Soldiers and Marines that would like to show how far more dishonorable a beat down is than any case of stolen valor.
If tha man was really a faker, then you wouldn’t need help fighting him.

Let’s hope this Airman’s punishment includes Community Service at a local VA Hospital to learn some empathy.

I feel it is time for service members to mind their own business, and leave people alone. There is a portion of the 1% that WILL NOT take these young testosterone filled punks crap, and they will seriously get hurt messing with the wrong one.

I maintain the greatest of respect for all My brothers and sisters that served in the US Armed Forces be it Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force or Coast Guard. I have a VA card but also a blue retired Military DD Form 2, Retired, ID card perhaps the guy that said He was in the Air Force was a fake ? If He wasn't then He should be ashamed of Himself and in any event deserves to go to jail.
