Not one boot should be on the ground until we get serious about actually destroying ISIS.
150 SF guys... pfft.
No offence JSOC, you guys do amazing things every day, but that number is an embarrassment.
Cuba (!) has more troops on the ground than that.

1SG (Join to see), with the diffident leadership currently in the White House, putting troops in danger without hope of victory would be a waste of our soldiers' blood.

"For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle?"

COL Mikel J. Burroughs I am going to add a humorous touch to this discussion.
I just had lunch, opened my fortune cookie, and it no kidding reads: "You will step on the soil of many countries". It just got REAL>

My belief has and always will be an all in or all out approach. If we continue to halfheartedly address the problem, the cost is too high for no gain. In that instance we should withdraw. However, if we are really committed to defeating ISIS or whatever term its being called this week, we need to commit the necessary resources to exterminating them. They aren't interested in a peaceful resolution so the only option is to completely and utterly exterminate them. The down side is it will require a ton of cash and a ton of troops.

Well Its our job to take the fight to them rather than allow them to bring the fight here. Either way we are going to have to fight them...Best if we do it there.

COL Mikel J. Burroughs - Mikel; Go ahead, ask me if I'm surprised that veterans have divided opinions on the topic.

SFC John Lovelady - Spec; Of course taxpayers aren't prepared to pay the costs associated with veterans. Well, taxpayers who are veterans themselves probably are, but that comprises what, 7% of all taxpayers?

If you REALLY want to improve benefits for veterans attach the improvements as riders to the legislation which increases the pay and benefits of Senators and Representatives.

Hard question to answer...from many points of view. I know, because history has proven it so, that you can't wall up and expect the worlds troubles to stay outside. Having spent some time involved...I would hate to see everything done by so many, for so long, lost. However, since I have friends who will be tasked with it...and I'm not among them, it's difficult to say I'm "for it", so much as to say, God go with them.

I'm still stick with what I always say. If the President served and went to war he would not be so quick to send troops to war. I think it's time to get a real game plan together and get really serious about getting rid of Isis. Nuke them all and make them glow. I know they live around innocent people but if your live with them I feel your supporting them. I'm tried of losing good American and breaking families apart. If I could I would go back and take a married members place. Just saying and I know I might get some negative feed back from this.

" firmly believe in keeping Israel safe too," said Michael Chipps, a veteran. "America is the world leader so as long as we're the world leader we'll always be around"...NO. I signed up to defend THIS country, her way of life, and her interests. I swore no allegiance to Israel or any other country. We can be the world leader or whatever, but placing one ally above another is stupid. They have their own Army and Air Force. They're good. But given the chance to serve again, I'm there.

The USA created ISIS by destroying Iraq. We have a moral obligation to fix what we broke. In addition, what does it say to the thousands of people whose lives were destroyed by OIF if we walk away?

I do not think ISIS is a result of the war. Iraq was ran by a tyrant. I sure many areas of that country want to break away.

1SG Nick Baker it is certainly true that the entirety of West Asia was divided artificially by various Imperialistic empires. It's also true that Iraq was a poorly cobbled together country of enemies.

At the same time, without having emplaced a very strong leader in his place, removing Saddam Hussein completely destabilized Iraq, and that's what led to AQI becoming ISIS...

LCDR Rabbah Rona Matlow - We did back the Shah of Iran until he was over throw by the Islamic Revolution, same year Saddam came into power. Iraq would have most likely seen a Arab spring. Syria has the same issue. The Sunni's do not share al Qaeda uniting all Muslims and wanted their own country. So IS, ISIL, or ISIS broke away to form a country. We allowed Hitler to do it, until he attacked Poland.
Whether we should have gone to war in Iraq is not the issue; that boat sailed. We should not have pulled out of Iraq so early. Here is a link on some more news in the region:http://www.ibtimes.com/how-isis-shook-al-qaeda-became-even-more-powerful-iraq-1604032

1SG Nick Baker you are correct that we should not have pulled out of Iraq when we did - that was just as bad as going in to begin with. Now it's going to take an exponentially larger force and much longer time to sort this mess out, especially if we don't act...
