Every good parent knows that you can't alter a child's behavior if they never have to suffer to consequences of that behavior. The same is true in every age and in government as well. Why don't we make the miscreants pay for their misfeasance, malfeasance, and nonfeasance?

"After reviewing thousands of pages of documentation, I determined that the evidence does not support accountability action against any individual still employed by VA," --VA Deputy Secretary Sloan Gibson. No sh**, Mr. Gibson! Who's going to stand up and say, "It's me. This is my responsibility."? I'll bet it's that GS-15 with 18-yrs in "service." --You know that contract manager who has two kids in college. He cares. I'm sure. Rant over.

SGT Sean Wike - I don't agree with that, as others may have influence over you, e.g. a manager who has a grudge against you for whatever reason.

SGT Sean Wike - I totally disagree. If you can't play by the rules, you shouldn't be allowed to play at all.

When you know you cannot be "fired", why worry about silly things like cost overruns, late work, proper healthcare, or anything else the VA is supposed to do. Get "fired" take the government to court, be back at work the following week in the same position, in the same office, doing the same screw-ups you were doing before.

SSG Warren Swan - What talent? Can you cite any example in which the govt hasn't screwed up something other than it's constitutionally limited functions? Have you followed the unbroken chain of govt failures in the green energy effort? They've also done equally bad with health care and everything else they attempt. http://www.vcpost.com/articles/118259/20160317/solar-power-ivanpah-solar-electric-generating-system-pacific-gas-and-electric-co-california.htm

CPT Jack Durish - Using that rationale, there isn't ANYTHING the government has not screwed up. But it doesn't take away the fact that within every section of government there are those who try to do the right thing and either by burecratic (sp) rules or personal norms that hold others back. We cannot say that "ALL" of anything is bad...even when we feel it is. I'll use VA as my personal example. This is SUBJECTIVE. You rarely hear of a good doctor in the VA system. I have one. She actually listens, she doesn't give me pills to get me out of her office, and while I am on a time hack with her, she makes it seem so I'm not. I feel BETTER with her than I do with my TRICARE doctor. In this I say there IS talent everywhere, but government "leaders" and even legislators have done almost everything to stamp them down, keep them quiet, or push them out to where life in the private industry is a better way to go....provided they're not in prison.
On the green energy thing...no argument from me. At the same time, when you try new and emerging technologies, you will run into issues like this. Battery powered cars have been around how long, and JUST within the last few years led by Tesla have they really caught on? Now BMW and just about every major manufacturer has some kind of hybrid or all electric car. Even McLaren has a version of it's HyperCar that is a hybrid. So the ability IS there, but the embracing of it isn't. You're also taking profits from Big Coal and Oil, so Texas and West VA won't stand for that too long. Solar and wind energy HAS the ability to do more, but it's time might not be here yet.

SSG Warren Swan - Who says we can't say "all"? Of course there are good people in the system, but not because of the system. If anything, they are good in spite of the system. Don't you think that same doctor would give you good care, maybe even better care in a private practice? I have studied history extensively, often focusing on this very subject. Government licenses to private industry have screwed them up too. Robert Fulton was given an exclusive license to operate steamboats on the Hudson. His service never improved. He never added safety features. His fares increased without worry because he had no competition. His was the only game on the river. We need to shut down every bureau and agency that is not specifically authorized in the Constitution. We survived without them before we had them. In fact, we flourished as a nation without them. The degradation of America, its economy, our quality of life is directly proportional to the growth of government.

I personally don't believe in "all" being that it deals in absolutes. Rarely if ever is an absolute correct. On the doctor, yes it would come down to the personality and work ethic of the individual. But that still doesn't take into account the work environment. If you keep your boot on someone's neck do you think you'll get quality work? In the same vein, if you gave them operational freedom, with some limited oversight, they'd more than likely excel. Works great in the military...... sometimes.
I copied this from a webpage I'll show at the end: I believe that in order to become a prosperous country we must abolish/privatize all federal agencies created since 1850 starting by the IRS and gradually moving towards the Department of Education, Department of Health and Human Services, Department of Homeland Security, Department of Agriculture, etc… all of those departments created since 1850 must be abolished and privatized
The issue with this is that just about every government agency has been created since then. We survived before then being we were a simple country still learning her way. At this time in the 1850's we are about to hit the Civil War, AND the Industrial Revolution. With BOTH of those MAJOR events, there is no possible way to stay the way we were before so we have to evolve or fail. Moving into the 20th century, you have the IRS, Social Security, War Dept (DOD precursor), and a litany of others that have come about. We cannot use the constitution as the SOLE justification as to whether or not an agency stays open or is shuttered. There is NO WAY possible Washington knew about atomic energy back then. They did taxes, so a form of the IRS was there, DOD.....questionable. Again it was a different time. No matter what, the constitution should be a guide, but not the SOLE document that dictates who lives on and who dies. There are some agencies who's usefulness has grown as time has gone on...FBI for example. After Hoover was finally gone, instead of being a sudo-spy/wanna be law enforcement agency on Americans, it was actually able to function as a Federal law enforcement agency. It should not be shuttered. But you have the CIA/NSA/DIA/ and Lord knows how many other IC units that could be consolidated and effectively double their abilities, but turf wars would prevent that. Also you would run into those who think the military could be combined. Do you really need Marines? Does the AF need to be separate? Does the Army need a Division of Airborne? It's a slippery slope you're on, and where does it level out?

I used this site ONLY for the comment shown above: http://heritageaction.com/2011/11/issue-profile-unconstitutional-federal-agencies/
