How long can you be a corporal without being promoted?

Is there a certain lenght of time or regulation for how long you can be a corporal?

I think the current RCP for an E-4 is 10 years TIS. For what it is worth - I was an E-5 for 15 years - possible a record.

I had a buddy who, by the time I ETSed was E5 for 13. Haven't kept track of him since, but as I got out of Active Duty nearly 6 years ago, perhaps he may have taken your title. ;-)

1. RP was 8 yrs when I was in for all E4's. You can be a CPL till you are boarded and have the required promotion points- which can take a damn long time in some MOS's.

I was RCPed as a 31V back in 1997. The cut off score for my MOS stayed at 998 points. But all is well, I took 12 years off. Went into the reserves in 2009, and now I am waiting on the E8 list coming up to see if I made it.

Thanks MSG. There's a CPL in my unit that the leadership wants to become a SPC again. I was just looking for tyhe way to go about it. All I've found so far is whats in AR 614-200 CH3-15.

You can find all the RCP information through your S1, Re-enlistment NCO or Career Counselor. SPC-CPL is a DA4187 lateral promotion, not a semi-centralized promotion. I am sure that the Chain of Command there knows that and what they would need to do to move the CPL back to SPC.
