I don't care to hear anything he has to say. My DI had a mean streak; he became a DI right out of Basic Training, and never had any civilizing experience in the real world.

I don't even remember the name of my Drill Sergeant and social media didn't exist until about 30 years after I was in basic. However he was a nice guy.

SGT Jerrold Pesz, you were fortunate; mine was a stentorian runt.

Capt Seid Waddell When my high school buddy was drafted in 1953 he attended MOS 1711, Light Infantry Training at BCT in the ‘Flying 63rd Infantry’ of the 6th ID at Fort Ord. Frank’s entire term of service was as Cadre at Ft Ord. He saw a lot of our HS Classmates pass thru Ft Ord. Most weekends he would drive to his folk’s home in Castro Valley and his mom would do his laundry. I do not know if he was really mean but he told of being chastised for damaging too many Helmet Liners by slamming them to the ground for emphasis!

Cpl D L Parker, I've tried to find SFC Richard DesLauriers on many forms of social media to no avail. He was my drill sergeant at BCT at Fort Jackson (Tank Hill), SC, from 11NOV69 to 16JAN70. He was in the business of mentoring before the Army formalized the process and was worthy of emulation. Extraordinary NCO. Capt Seid Waddell COL Charles Williams

Capt Seid Waddell, this man might well be his son, considering name and hometown. I tried to reach out to him before, while he was still with the FBI, to no avail. I think he is now with a private securities firm and I simply ceased efforts to contact him.

Used to have mine as a friend on Facebook, talked to him a little bit to see if he was still an instructor. Neither one of us ever really posted anything though so when I did a friend's list cleanse I removed him.

I would dearly love to still be able to talk with my Company Commander, but he passed away many years ago.

I did look mine up on Facebook, and I reached out to her. She did not respond. She was tough, but not cruel. I think she did a good job.

Back long before personal computers and social meeting, I was bowling in a base league. On the opposing team was my drill Sgt from basic training.

Pretty nice guy, AND we beat him :)

Ran across SDI in Japan 1979. He'd made MSgt by then. I bought him a bottle of Crown Royal for letting me slide through, and all the special attention he gave me on the quarterdeck when he was so inclined.
