How would you react to an E2 who "smart mouths" you in formation?

Here's the background. You're a senior E5. Your troops are in formation and you're handing out work for the day. You hand out an assignment to a fresh E2 with less than a year in and only a few months at your command. They blatantly complain and tell you to choose someone else. You calmly tell them they will do this task and they tell you to shove it and give it to someone else. How do you react?

I think the best thing to do is drop him from your patoon to another Platoon or CCP

CAN'T take care of it by hand? DISGUSTING. SOMETIMES I really WONDER if the current armed forces aren't afraid to fight and kill or even USE nasty words anymore? Say what will of your order and discipline,IF YOU can't handle repairing a personality or two you aren't fit to lead in combat. TRODOC and USMJ be everlovin DAMNED when it's my team at all.

It is not the point to pass him over but to get his attention and to understand the UMC J the Marine Corps is design to build Fighting Man not to babysit individuals if what I'm hearing today about individuals in the Marine Corps they need to restructure Marine Corps back during the time I was there

We used to call this "passing the trash" and it just wasn't done. You fix these problems yourself and don't foist them on somebody else.

I love your "You're at 400 ft and there's a fire in the Torpedo Room." Definitely Panic City. At that point you use everyone else to get the emergency fixed, then let them discipline him, maybe with a blanket party - course, on a sub, that might not be what happens - because of space.
I still like the idea of having him, or them, stand fast and finding out what his/their problem is, and being the manager to help fix their problem to finally fix your (discipline) problem. If that doesn't help, there is always EMI or Art.15.

Dismiss formation and give E2 some one on one special instruction.

Pulling the rank/paygrade card should only ever be your last option. However, some people do need to be reminded that there is a hierarchy in the military.

Light him/her up right then and there real short and quick. To take charge of situation. Deal with it right then and there. Short firm and to the point. Then in front of the platoon and VERY direct I would tell the Squad Leader, Team Leader and soldier in question to report to my office immediately after formation. After they report i would have the Team Leader and Soldier stand at parade rest outside
of office so he can sweat a little with door closed, so other can see him standing there with Team Leader. Instruct Team Leader that the Soldier is to keep mouth shut head and eyes front. Talk with squad leader find out what going on in his life. Dear John letter, death in family that type of thing or his he/she
just a shit bird. Then he becomes a leadership challenge. I will win. Also check with with Squad Leader to in sure know medical or mental health issues. If so send to appropriate offices.
Have an idea what i want for end results
so this behavior doesn't happen again with this Soldier and prevent it from occurring again in the platoon. During closed door discussion. With planned actions (and limits) for ass chewing then i begin. Have Team Leader and Soldier report 18 inches front and
center. Keep him at attention for a couple
of minutes. While i use verbal communication with inflection and deflection of voice, chew his ass.
Then give him parade rest. Talk with normal voice. Let him/her no what they did was wrong, reinforcing the point they all ready knew this. Let him/her talk. Use my experience as a leader, and learned problem solving techniques from NCO leadership schools. Let them no they will receive punishment for the disrespect. Soldiers history tells us how punishment. From ass chewing with push up's, to in- house punishment. Or more severe punishment up to and include UCMJ action. Fast, Firm, Direct and Fair.

Some how I don't think this technique would be effective. That normally works for soldiers who actually want to do good and stay in.

I smoke his punk ASS for about an hour.....then I make him do the duty I gave him to do...when he has completed his task....I smoke him again for about another hour!!!! The next morning, I take him for a special PT and smoke him to complete muscle failure......after breakfast....we have another smoke session for about an hour.....He then strips and waxes floors all day.....when he is done with that, he cleans all latrines in barracks.....after that he gets smoked for about an hour.......at about 0300 he is awaken for stand to......does watch until sun up, then falls out for pt......he is then given a very special pt which brings on another case of muscle failure!!! he is sent for breakfast, then he has to clean all latrines with a toothbrush.....strip and wax all floors in barracks....then smoked for 2 hours......after that he is released for regular duty....if he ever mouths off again or refuses duty he will be taken out and shot for insubordination!!!!!

I had troop like that. They would try to run the show and there mouth.that when you put the boot to them. all it takes is to put them on the pt yard and let them push pencil with there nose the length of the field one time thats all it take. No more BS.

Do your job or I will use administration action. This includes talking to the first shirt and/or the Commander about this fiasco.

end that enlistment, incarcerate until paperwork is complete and a minimum 02 weeks with CCF, 1 month pay that does not effect separation monies to return POS back to hood, OK here it is simply he/she wants an immediate separation from contract, ok there are penalties everyone knows how far to push the break the contract, he/she went there, anyone above me can do with this POS whatever they want including bending over pamper or destroy as long as I get full backing for all to see and know that will outcome under those circumstances
