Interesting read and take. A lot of big lobbying groups have fallen after thinking they were too big to go down. Could the NRA be the next one to bite the dust? The author brings up some good points, but me personally I'm not totally sold. What do you think Rally Point?

Why would you want them to fall? The NRA is an organization that fundamentally helps to protect our second amendment. If you think guns are to blame for mental illnesses then there in lies the problem.

I have no skin in the game. Personally I find it humorous on both sides of the gun lobby. I posted this to see what others thought.

I answered no, as nothing is, and nothing lasts forever. However, I don't believe that the NRA is going anywhere soon. The reason for this is because the NRA truly is a grassroots organization. Of course firearm manufacturers benefit from the protection that the NRA has given them, however this is not "Big Tobacco." The other organizations that John Blake compares the NRA to in his article lost their grassroots support and failed. The NRA is nowhere close to loosing support. In fact it is gaining support. I'm not sure if it's intentional, or if authors such as John Blake are just so out of touch with the section of America that's not on our left or right coasts, that they fail to recognize that the NRA represents a very strong cross section of Americans.

I can't speak for Mr. Blake or his opinion, but the fact than a group had the backing enough to get an amendment made, is rather strong in itself. I could only see the NRA failing is if the populace gets tired of the rhetoric from them as much as the rhetoric from the anti gun side. Once it equals out, not much need then. But that's not realistic being that it'll never happen with the way mass media likes to stir pots on both sides.

SSG Warren Swan, the NRA didn't get the Second Amendment made - the abuses of the British Crown did that. The Second Amendment was a part of the original Constitution signed on September 17, 1787; the NRA came along 93 years later on November 17, 1871.

I agree with that, but could the general populace whittle down it's influence? Peoples memories in America are shorter than my odds of winning the lottery.

we have a problem with the media BS about all the children getting shot but most of the shooting are gangs and thugs and will always have illegal guns.

Any group that becomes more interested in building itself up and chooses to support what will enrich them rather than fight for core issues will in time fail. Their membership will leave them and the organization will become irrelevant.

Why woud that need to fall? I am not sure what this even means? Fall for what? My deal would be none of the above because I do care but gun control nuts need to be reigned in.

Not so much in the sense of it being a failure, but becoming to big for itself and a change in priorities causing it to fail. Much in the sense of some thinking WWP becoming bigger than itself.

SSG Warren Swan - If the government set out to limit that power, it would go about it, by introducing new laws through a creeping authoritarian government. People assenting to these restrictions would soon find themselves having more and more rights deferred to government who has never done anything right. S2D2.

SSgt (Join to see) - But that would be the case regardless of party affiliation. People want more government control when it suits their desires, and then want more states rights when it comes to their agendas. Blame the government for immigration, then ban them from building a fence on your property as an example. No one can win, but the blame is conveniently placed at the wrong set of feet.

Another reasonable question is, about Mexicans and 0ther illegals streaming across the border and that is another loose end. If we are not serious about porous borders and that risk; if our president wants to win at all costs, the next victims will be those related to home invasions and quite possibly with automatic weapons.

To win an election by putting innocents at risk is dumb at best and using another country's laws as a litmus test is either deceptive or fuzzy thinking.

What's next? Global Warming? Will that be the issue that needs immediate attention? LOL. This is kind of a political grab bag and just like HRC, Immigration and whatever else, there will be a next issue and another and another... Wake up America!!

the only person responsible for gun violence is the person that pulls the trigger and aims the gun at another human. we have this thing called a constitution and we took a oath to protect it.

According to the Gun industry, Obama is the best gun salesman there ever was. This was going around just before his reelection. My son is training as a gun smith and says the same thing. Everytime Obama opened his mouth about gun control, sales went up. http://shinybastard.com/?p=896
