I wish I could find a better source for this video, but a Facebook link is the best I can do. Basically, it reports that you are 7X more likely to be murdered, 15X more likely to be killed in an auto accident, and 42X more likely to be raped than to experience excessive police brutality. Other sources of crime statistics that I've checked seem to bear out the facts presented in this video.

The court of public perception still blames the police. No statistics will prove otherwise.

MSG (Join to see), agreed. The truth cannot make a dent in the propaganda that is repeated endlessly by those in the media and in power with an agenda.

TSgt Frank Shirley - I wait till the investigation is complete and find facts before I determine if it is justified or not. It's not about race to me. That doesn't mean it isn't about race to the media or others.

Unfortunately. I'm in the police academy now and a lot of discussions were about it. Honestly, that's unreal to convince people of it after such stories as BLM. I found a lot of interesting thoughts here during preparing coursework on this theme. I think if people research more - they would change their opinion. That's easy to watch the news and then try to think your own way.

I would also add the point that the media only focus on the extreme cases but not on all kind things police do for us

The media will only focus on the extreme cases. This in turns creates the image that the majority of police use brutality. Social media has taken it to a new level we are evolving into a nation that is hyper-polarized on many issues. The middle ground is disappearing.

One Of The Cops Who Showed Up Was A Guy I'd Gone To School With At West Junior High..And I'd Not Even Heard About Nor Seen HIM Since The 7th Grade..
I Assume He's Retired By Now, But I Recall His Last Name Vividly, Because It's "FORD"..

Any police brutality is unacceptable, regardless of who it is directed towards. However IMO there isn't necessarily an increase in its occurrence. What there has been is an increase in that ability to record and get the information out to the public almost instantly. Only a few years ago we only heard about extreme cases of police brutality through the media; who knows how many lesser instances never hit the papers or TV? Today just about everyone has a cell phone and quickly records and posts everything they see, especially if the police are involved, hoping their post will go viral. I think police forces are doing business as usual and procedures haven't taken into account the increased awareness of the public. Things like dash and body cameras may have forced some police to think a little more before acting but I think their basic training and protocols need to be updated to reflect the impact of social media and the proliferation of cell phones and other recording devices.

It has also made them somewhat less effective. The detectives on my squad did it right 99% of the time. If you scared them with a weapon however, all bets were off. We didn't have camera's in the 80's either.

Just how pervasive is police brutality?

It's no more or less pervasive than it was 50 years ago. Today, with the constant surveillance state, it's just easier to broadcast nationwide. Criminals didn't have uncommon protections until liberalism invaded the courtrooms. Liberalism gave criminals a voice they wouldn't otherwise have.

Take CA for example, are you willing to go to jail when you defend your property and family from the criminal element that knows they have more rights than the citizens they victimize?

I too found this video which lists its reference as the 2008 FBI statistics. I found it quite interesting that American Indians are per capita most likely to be killed in law enforcement contacts than other races. More whites than blacks are killed yearly and hispanics are fairly close behind blacks. These are not the facts that the media paints. I wonder if anyone has done an update based on more recent figures?

CPT Jack Durish IMO those numbers should be a higher. LEOs do so much good that never gets press because we are just doing our jobs or it isn't inflammatory so no one hears about it.

Here is a tip- obey the law. Statistics show that a cop is 18 times more likely for a white cop to be killed by a black male, than for a black male to be killed by a cop. It is a real statistic. My hats off to cops out there-regardless of color. God bless you all!

I want you to read the book " The war on cops," by Heather McDonald. It just came out and I am giving you hard data, not rhetoric. I am not trying to pick a fight, and you have to understand I don't like this statistic any more than you do. How does it help anything if you won't accept facts and statistics? No one wants to talk about the facts. As for your unarmed black men comment to whom are you referring to? Is it the cops or unarmed blacks being murdered other blacks? If it's the latter, then
You're correct. You think whites aren't being killed by cops? It happens too, only the media isn't telling you about it. I urge you to read the book, and get educated on the topic before you go off on the police. I have gotten many a Bas tickets before, including letting a WSP cop in by slowing down traffic. He got behind me and pulled me over because he didn't see my temporary tag on the vehicle. He then proceeds to give me a ticket for no seat belt even after I told him I took it off to reach into my glove box. Had I been a black man, would I have considered this racist? What if you were in that situation? Would you have escalated it to the point of confrontation? What I did was tell him it was a bs ticket and see him in court. I went to court and started explaining how I let the cop in and he pulled me over for no plate he didn't see and the judge hit his gavel and said dismissed. I turned around and told the cop who actually showed up and said, " I told you it was a bs ticket." I am sure there are dickhead cops out there that pull crap against minorities and they need to be weeded out. I thought we were doing a good job until the great divider in chief told me how racist cops and white people in general are. Put yourself in OUR shoes for a minute and tell me you wouldn't be a little pissed off too. It is a plan though- to divide all races and have them pissed off at each other. I won't oblige. I will remain color blind as God almighty commands us to do. I only ask you read the book and see what you think. They are real statistics- and the media isn't telling you that truth. Peace and love brother, and I mean no disrespect. We all bleed the same. God bless you.

CPL LaForest Gray - Now break down your percentages by per capita. Why are so many police officers killed by a minority? We do remember why some races are called by the name minority, don't we?

Well, in my mind the word minority has always had a mathematical relationship. There is a majority of people and then there is a minority of people. How other people view the word isn't my concern, just as I don't concern myself with how other people view any word I use. I typically view words as they are descripted in commonly used dictionaries.
Also, I have already read all of your previously written posts.

Can you see what is pinned to my chest it the photo to the left? I loved that badge as much as the uniform under it. I haven't warn either in almost 30 years, but I saw my share of police brutality in my time, but when I saw it I stopped it! Until police officers police each other and put a stop to it when they see it and don't cover for your "brother" officer the general public will think everyone wearing that badge is corrupt. Each and every one of us is responsible to "protect and serve". If you can't abide by that pledge turn in that badge and uniform, let someone with the necessary integrity put it on! Please excuse my rant but I just had to let it out.

Police brutality can affect anyone, don't be rediculous . I remember the black lady professor in Texas claimed police harassed her as she walked down the street. The police released the video and she was flat out lying!
