I was young - 6 years old and just becoming a baseball fan. I remember seeing it on the news. Now that I'm older, I agree, it was a most spectacular play. A couple of years ago, the Dodgers commemorated Rick Monday and this play with a bobblehead doll. Rick Monday, in mid-sprint with Old Glory secure in his righthand. I purchased one off of Ebay and it sits proudly on a shelf in my den.

No, it wasn't before my time, but I did not see this play first hand. What an awesome play it was!

My father, God rest his soul was a fan of the Big Reds Machine, in the Cincy glory days in the 1980s. He talked about this event. Thank you for bringing back a fantastic memory of me and my old man!

I don't remember that incident, and I'm usually pretty good when it comes to baseball. Obviously, that one got past me - either I'm getting old (nah!) or just not paying attention (more likely)

I don't remember it, but it wasn't "before my time" necessarily. I was only 2 years old at the time though.

However, this is awesome and I'm sad that I just now learned about this. Thank you for sharing.

PO1 John Miller, fortunately for us, we still have people willing to defend the flag today, though our institutions no longer do.

I remember it well, Capt Seid Waddell! By the way, I was at Fort McClellan, AL that day.

I watched Rick Monday play in college. He was a good player and, this play, showed he was fine man of character.
