Should an Army Vet be Arrested For Storing Anti-Tank Round On Roof Of His Home?

WHAT WAS HE THINKING?

Army veteran Tracy Worwood was charged with reckless endangerment when police found a live AT-4 anti-tank round on his roof. DUH!

http://taskandpurpose.com/army-vet-arrested-for-storing-anti-tank-round-on-roof-of-his-home/

During a visit in November, Worwood’s underage son found the rocket and took a photo of it. After his son found the round, Worwood moved it to the roof for safekeeping. When the boy’s mother saw the picture, she reported it to the FBI, which prompted the police investigation.

"Play stupid games, win stupid prizes"

It doesn't look like he stole "live" ord, but took home a "dud" (fired but not exploded). He made a stupid decision, but based on previous history (OTH Discharge, after 10 years of Service...) this was one of many.

So in response to your question Sir, COL Mikel J. Burroughs he wasn't thinking. He likely had a predisposition of not thinking.

COL Mikel J. Burroughs - To expand. I have a hard time giving "jailtime" for Stupidity. I think that should be reserved for Malice. However there needs to be a Punishment when that Stupidity has progressed to the point of "willful."

It's been a couple of years, but if memory serves: Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) is not supposed to be marked as expended until it is properly disposed of. This is especially true when the item in question is what we call an All Up Round, which is any ordnance stored in a "ready to fire" condition. That being the case, this item should still be on somebody's inventory. This could end up touching a few more lives/careers if paperwork was falsified when this thing grew legs.

SGT Robert Deem - The unit probably spent a 4 day looking for experimental MRE's the month before and the NCOIC wasn't about to miss another one.

You'd think the Army would've pounded this into everyone's heads by now; apparently not:

"Unexploded ordnance is a temporary condition."

Chief, there is a reason everything in the Army is written at an 8th grade level.
