Should we be prepared this time for another pandemic or should we underrate monkey pox like we did on the onslaught of Covid-19?

There have been monkey pox cases reported here in India and the first death due to monkey pox has occurred in Mumbai recently. Monkey pox is a real medical situation, which doctors claim can be cured with Small pox treatment. Indeed; many other countries have reported cases of monkey pox too. However, where this virus will develop into another pandemic is unclear yet.
After the onslaught of Covid-19, the U.S., under former President Donald Trump, declared this serious medical situation that was claiming lifes, even in the U.S. as the "Chinese Flu" and the "Wuhan Plague" mobilizing medication for treatment of waterborne diseases. If the U.S. and other countries, including India, underrate the onslaught of another pandemic, we will be the biggest losers of the modern world; we would be a civilization that never learnt from its mistakes.

I'm sure these viruses really do exist, but do we need to be mandated and herded around political mismanagement?

No, not at all Doug. Politics should never be used to deliver medical advice.

I was going to comment, but you beat me to it. WE all know the mid-terms are coming up and it will be used in politics. In my eyes, how can we trust the CDC anymore when through Fauci knew from the start they were doing the research there and the CDC was financing it? "CONTROL of the masses" is the phrase of the times.

Mandated responses to public health issues have existed for centuries.

Kind of an apples and oranges thing, what the two have in common is that they are contagious diseases. Monkey Pox is a known virus with existing vaccines, that wasn't the case with Covid. If the previous administration hasn't politicized response tooutbreaks of any disease this conversation wouldn't even be happening.

SFC Terry Stinnett, I am not personally saying anything; I have taken this from a report that suggests that the treatment of monkeypox with smallpox vaccine and drugs has been found to cure this infection. Hence; deduction is that treatment for smallpox and monkeypox is the same or identical.
SARS 2 is a separate infection unrelated to monkeypox and smallpox, yet for monkeypox to affect mankind immediately following a massive outbreak of SARS 2 seems unlikely without human intervention.
What do you think; coincidence or deliberate?

CPT Gurinder (Gene) Rana monkeypox, a misnomer, since it's primary hosts are rodents, has circulated in Africa for decades that we know of (we only got interested in the Western world when it got imported & got our attention). Between global trade and travel, it has been able to do what viruses do--mutate and take off, circulation in naive populations. I suspect environmental disturbances--mining, road building, new developments, in the "wilderness" where the rodent populations we're disturbed, is also part of the equation. Zoonotic diseases are a significant issue throughout history, for their impact on unsuspecting civilian populations (bubonic plague) and on military readiness.

SFC Terry Stinnett, agreed. Apart from rodents, monkeys are known to be a spreader of monkeypox as well. In India, monkeys are known to bite people and toss have eaten bananas with their saliva on it. Much of this spread has been attributed to illegal construction in forest regions that has displaced these monkeys and other wildlife.

First off, Monkey Pox is not a novel virus, it's well documented and the treatments are known. Second, it requires physical contact with the infected person to transmit the disease. And last, in the US and Western Europe, it so far has been restricted to homosexual men. It's the simple reason that SF is the US hotspot.

Most affected in Europe are in the UK, Spain and Germany; while the 460 cases in the U.S. are predominantly from New York to Massachusetts, according to the CDC.

CPT Gurinder (Gene) Rana - A bit dated, NY is still number one, California is now second, and Illinois number three. Florida and Georgia are four and five.

CPT Lawrence Cable, I truly appreciate the update because I still had dated information.
