Post Update (20 Feb 2020): I have enjoyed reading everyone's comments!

FREE SPEECH is NOT Dead or at best NOT YET Illegal!!! Adults are responding in this post - EXCELLENT! Some are whining! ~2/3's overall per the poll still believe SOTH was disrespectful at some level.

POTUS did have a bit of a chip on his shoulder, for not shaking SOTH hand when extended.

Some seemed to forget former President Clinton's own avoidance of military service (aka deferments) as they excoriated Trump for his deferments - Humm?

The Congress & POTUS need to quit excessive Tweeting and GET TO WORK for "We the people...." Cut the BS!!!

All in All , instructive post! Of course some will defend POTUS regardless, others will defend SOTH regardless.

Some of the adults that responded slammed them both and provided balanced responses that took a deeper critical look! You know who you are! Thank you!
----------------------------------
Post Update (12 Feb 2020): Please see my response to SGM(P) (Join to see)'s wise words in this post! Some might just be - surprised!
------------------------------------------
Original Post

Background: By now the world is a buzz with what took place at the end of the SOTU by POTUS and the "ripping" by the SOTH at the end of the speech.

Discussion: While I can respect the opinion of Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia to recommend centure (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qPr2EodEAdU), I and many believe that the SOTH's behavior last night is worthy of the SOTH's own centure! The lack of leadership of the SOTH in the 'ripping up" of the SOTU address on live TV is shameful.

It makes NO different if you are RIGHT, CENTER or LEFT. The disrespect shown is not a sign of defiance of this POTUS or solidarity with her party. It is an open attack against "We the people....." As an Independent, I have not always agreed with POTUS on some issues, but that does not mean I will not show the Office of POTUS its proper due, regardless of who hold the office!

I have as does the SOTH the right to "respectfully disagree" as guaranteed under the 1st Amendment; however, as the SOTH the "ripping behavior" boarders on behaviors that reminds me of someone desiring to insight insurrection, but not be held accountable for the actions they transmit.

Recommendation: While the "majority members" of the House will not centure their own Speaker, perhaps the Senate might, in order to send a message to centure the SOTH for such a tantrum during the SOTU!

So my question is this:

Was the behavior of the SOTH a sign that the current SOTH as of Feb 2020 lacks both the maturity and leadership grit to behave in a manner worthy of that office as 3rd in line to be POTUS?

As a mildep, a Brat, I was taught what was proper behavior in public and what was not. Ms. Pelosi showed off her childish, ignorant behavior, she and her little coven of dressed-alike little juvenile delinquents. My 13-year-old granddaughter has better manners than that crowd. To me she needs to be examined for alcoholism, Altzheimer's, or both. I'm only 4 years younger and I was embarrassed for women in politics everywhere.

Mr. Aquila, Your post has got to be one of the most disrespectful comment I have ever read. Like it or not President Trump is still The Commander in Chief. Even if you do not respect the man you must still show respect for the office which he holds. If I were your NCOIC and you had torn up your monthly counseling statement, what do you think would happen. She was disrespectful and you are also being disrespectful.

SGT Warren Crutcher - Trump isn't Pelosi's "NCOIC", they are equal in our Constitutional system, and unless you are saying that Trump should be held to the same standard (i.e., not shaking her hand after looking directly at it), then your position is just partisan politics.

LCpl Leo Morrissey - I'm a veteran and a retired officer who doesn't like a civilian jumping on our fellow veterans.

Second, you could have looked at my profile if you wanted to know what I did in the service, but while I was Army, I was airborne infantry (i.e., a paratrooper), mech infantry, cavalry scout, and a tanker (M60-Rise/M60A3), and then the last 7 years I did were Security Police in the Air Force.

Third, wasn't it assaulting people that got you in trouble in Australia? Cops, in particular?

Finally, you're downvoted for lying about me hating Jews, Australians, etc.

No one is more childish, petty, divisive or more vindictive than POTUS. We se it everyday. But let someone else react in anyway to show defiance we get posts like these. POTUS already set the bar so low all that was, is a reaction to his DAILY childishness

SPC (Join to see) - As an Independent, when you say "...let someone else react in anyway to show 'defiance' we get posts like these..." AND especially your commentary "...Why is it that Caucasians need safe space? Have they ever been segregated/oppressed as a group?..." I fine interesting.

I have paid the price of defiance in ways you will NEVER know! I learned its art from my father, who after surviving the holocaust as a young person, came here after WWII to start a new life, with his mother. But, he was without his father, my grandfather, to show him the way. I had never seen a picture of my grandfather, until my father's death in 1999, when I asked his 2nd wife "...Whose picture that was on the mantel." Mystified, "...That is your grandfather, did you not know that?" She said "Wow, so I guess you want the picture?" Of course my answer was "Yes!" and like Mr. Alex Haley of Roots fame, I too have been on a journey to learn from whence I came.

As a grandfather now, I can only imagine, from what I have been able to piece together over these past 20-years regarding his kindness, the kind of man - HUMAN being - he was - whose candle was snuffed out before his time, denying me the opportunity the opportunity to get to know him and enjoy his company. My father, learned to defy the kind of oppression that some have little clue about! Dad came here, where he chose citizenship and to serve his liberator, the United States of America ("We the people..." those men black, white, Japan-American, remember that coalition who fought Facism!), as a volunteer member of the newly established US Air Force, serving in Korea before he became 100% SCD from that service!

It is easy to hide in anonymity, like those behind ski masks tossing Molotovs into unsuspecting shop owner's stores. Shop owners who are white, black, young, old, male, female, gay or straight, etc. just trying to make a simple honest living and are unknown to those acting like "thugs", wannabes, and pretending, as they attack them out of misplaced rage! Or, those in pointed white hoods or brandishing the Swastika (once "...an ancient religious icon in the cultures of Eurasia, used then as a symbol of divinity and spirituality in Indian religions, especially Hinduism...." But, now is forever bastardized for its current subjugation in its current role in spreading hate) by those willing to drive 'being long premeditated' in their own ignorance into crowds with intent to harm, because they lack, SELF-governance, more importantly a sense of the kind of SELF-respect of what it truly means to be - a HUMAN being! Because self-respect and self-governance would not have allowed such an emotion to consume them had they been so trained and so disciplined to resist - "...the dark side...!".

And, YES! those who are "Caucasians" have enslaved and oppressed other "Caucasians." Read some history! I know the Irish, ethnic Kurds, the Polish, etc. would appreciate your enlightenment! RACISM on TOP of MORE RACISM only begets MORE RACISM!

Please, look LONG and DEEP into the eyes of man who was MURDERED without RHYME or REASON by other Caucasians, because he was DIFFERENT, because he was a JEW!

EVERYONE! Needs to be safe! You, me, everyone and the space we occupy is UNSAFE for ONE it is UNSAFE for and HOSTILE to ALL!

So, I am challenging you and others - "Let's help 'tear down this wall' of 'blind hate'!" Please!!! I can no more understand your walk and you mine when accusations founded or unfounded are flowing like 'Mighty Mississippi" flow from in start into the Gulf, but, "We the people..." are not speaking with and not AT each other.

You want to feel and be safe, I want to feel and be safe. But, our "mutual defense" (aka mutual safety) will NOT be achieved until we as nation face many "inconvenient truths " that infect both the Democrats and the Republicans.

The ability for form that illusive "...more perfect union..." begins with - honest cool-headed dialogue! We are ALL guilty of that offense!

PS SPC (Join to see), SSG Robert Perrotto, Capt Gregory Prickett, lcpl-leo-morrissey, and others in this post - covering up 'crimes against humanity such as human trafficking, child or other sexual slavery, the kind of slavery that poverty and oppression rises from by want and ignorance and those who continue to think in terms of "...more equal than..." are - very offensive!

Capt Gregory Prickett You make my point precisely, sir! EVERY group has been hurt and EVERY group has taken, as Hitler did, and used shameful historical examples in their justification and propaganda to continue to sew seeds of discontent as they sit back laugh. If you think I am unaware of the plight of the Native American I am NOT! But, you would call me out and not call out SPC (Join to see) or others. As a lawyer, this Senior NCO expects better of you!

WADR, this whole thing is pointless! I once stood (1988) at the foot of the, then very rough outline of the Crazy House monument in SD during my travels. The work and the vision I witnessed was amazing. I asked "Wow, why doesn't someone just donate to this wonderful vision so it could to be faster to come together to help more Native Americans." The answer, "The dollars would be coming from 'whites' and the Native American is a proud an honorable race and wants to show they can do it on their own and want no strings attached!" These words were spoken by an African-American-Native-American man with whom I spent the next three hours in deep learning! I don't have $20 Million in my back pocket, but if I did I'd call you, write the check and ask you as a Native American for you to donate it with expectations of results! Then I'd expect to be invited to walk the new campus, learn even more about the Great Sioux people and be further educated. But, on that day, standing next to him I placed the $20 bill I had in my right front pocket in the locked donations box. I can never know the pain of the Native American as I can never really understand to the pain of African-Americans, yet to deny me my human pain is also - unjust!

It is, our pain and then our desire not to want to experience that pain that causes, us, if we are wise, to work to relieve and eliminate not the symptoms, but the ROOT CAUSES, themselves so that all have true - relief - true and sustainable justice! Or, were the words I learned that day from "Little Black Eagle" somehow wrong? Did that leather skinned WWII veteran who had the blood of two proud races coursing through his veins mean nothing of his sacrifices that he was not willing to teach this "Caucasian" with a gentle yet firm and fair hand? Taking my question and answering them with wisdom.

My "...decency meter..." as SGM(P) (Join to see) correctly calls it, pegged years ago. That anger and hurt is summed up in the powerful words of Simon and Garfunkel in The Sound of Silence (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9Dg-g7t2l4. I refuse to now remain silent and bury my hurt, just so others can ONLY judge me by the 'color of my skin". I will not allow hurt from others because of who they are, yet I will not allow others to continue to hurt me without challenge regardless of their background! Like all of us here that have tried to make our respective cases and please pardon my use of the term - is a 'peace-pipe' not now in order?

Remember Captain Ahab’s anger? It grew into a fixation against the sea monster - Moby Dick. As his hatred grew, so did his lack of wisdom. On his final trip to hunt the "Great White Whale" that had crippled him, the driving forces swelling in his soul began to overtake his once good judgment that put the man, his crew, and his ship into harms way. The lesson from Captain Ahab is found not only in Proverbs 15:18 NIV - “A hot-tempered person stirs up conflict, but the one who is patient calms a quarrel.”, but in other writings of great wisdom. Please, share with me the same wisdom from your Native American cultural perspective. I genuinely, want to know. I have said my peace.

CPO Nate S. - I haven't called out SPC (Join to see) because I ignore those that hide under a fictitious or made up name (his is from the Harry Potter series). Second, I haven't donated to the Crazy Horse monument for the same reason that American Indians protested the Mount Rushmore sculpture. The building of that monstrosity at the Six Grandfathers, scared ground to the Lakota, was an insult.

SPC (Join to see) - Seems you spend way too much time knee jerking to the media's fabrications and not enough thinking about actual reality. Yeah conservatives and all people whose thought processes function as normal loathed the idea of a communist as president, loathed an American hater as president, loathed the idea of having a president who knew absolutely nothing about economics and trade, loathed the idea of a president whose lineage back to his father was one of hate for capitalism, but not once as I aware of one of those conservatives running shopping for a federal judge that would block what Obama was doing, they limited themselves to the politics of the norm and of the past.

From the moment Trump showed power in the primaries, the media went after him like rabid dogs with hate as I have never seen before, nor have I have seen so many complete outrageous fabrications and lies about his past, his family, believed by so many fools.

It is wrong for Trump to constantly lie, mock the handicap, denigrate our troops
suffering from PTSD, state that one "must" stand for the National Anthem when the US Flag Code says "should" stand which gives one a choice guaranteed by the 1st Amendment, continuously abuses his power. I think that SOTH Pelosi tearing up her copy of SOTU address was well within her right under the 1st Amendment

Stop clutching your pearls, Felicia. After the mocking of numerous people in public by our current Commander-in-Chief, not to mention the lies he's been called out on (my favorite so far being the Alabama hurricane threat Sharpie editing of the US map), Speaker Pelosi's tearing up of a copy of POTUS's speech is pretty mild stuff.

US involvement in the Vietnam War started under Eisenhower, but hey, nice try. Black vs. white has been a problem in this country since before the American Revolution, so again, nice try (read up on conflict over slavery in the forming/ratifying of the US Constitution). Unresolved conflict over slavery from Revolutionary times contributed to the start of the Civil War. As far as war vs. anti-war, that too, began before the American Revolution (read David McCullough's 1776). The Revolution was an extreme gamble that almost didn't work because (1) not everyone in the American colonies wanted to fight the British, and (2) our militias/armies were vastly outnumbered and poorly equipped (thank God the French helped us). I don't have anything against my elders or those coming after me (my daughter is a millennial). I personally have never been mistreated by a young person and I think a lot of that has been blown out of proportion by TV/movies/media. The rich vs. poor is world-wide and long standing (see the New Testament and the French Revolution for examples). Men and women have been at each other since the Garden of Eden (read the Old Testament and Shakespeare). There have been folks with varied sexual preferences since ancient times (Ancient Greece and Rome come to mind). So, pardon me if I don't agree with your position about all this chaos being the fault of Democrats. Plenty of Republicans have caused problems/issues as well (Nixon comes to mind immediately). I think you need to study up on your history and politics before you jump to the conclusion about Democrats creating Donald Trump. Trump actually saw some things he thought were not being provided by the Republican Party/Democratic Party and decided to take advantage of it--that is how he was able to be nominated over numerous Republican candidates in the 2016 election cycle.

Lt Col Melinda Morrell - Leo's not generally known for having an open mind nor for representing history correctly. I would recommend that he read Summers's work, On Strategy, but he would ignore it. He is doing what the followers of demagogues often do, focus on a scapegoat. McCarthy focused on Communists. Hitler on Jews. In 1994, the Rwandan demagoguery led to the genocide of the Tutsis. In his view, society would be fine if we could just deal with the evil Mexicans/Muslims/others.

As I said to my partner who is Polish, trying to explain the America I grew up in and served for, I at the very least thought the Democrats and Republicans in government both cared enough to fight for us all. Those deluded thoughts evaporated under Obama. Without doubt the Republicans were far from perfect but there is at least an attempt to prove Patriotism. The liberals have Jane Fonda as a mascot. PO1 George White - I'm not too concerned with what Leo says. He's still upset with Australia for prosecuting him for assaulting their police officers, and the US Embassy for not supporting him in his conspiracy allegations, all of which he's talked about here on RP. He also has lied about my feelings about Jews (don't really have any, one way or another), that I'm xenophobic (not hardly), claims I'm a holocaust denier / fascist (wrong there, too), claims I belittle military families (based on my calling out one who was attacking a veteran on RP, my "attack" was that at least the vet served). That's why he's been blocked for 2 years.

You don't agree with me on some Constitutional issues and I haven't blocked you, even though I believe your interpretation is wrong based on my legal training. The reason is that you're not an asshole, a nut job, or a troll. Leo is, which is why he got blocked and why I rarely respond to him.

We don't have to agree to discuss issues. We do have to be sane. I know I am, and I'm pretty sure you are. We're both vets, so I figure we can work out the rest. If not, I doubt that either one of us will lose sleep over it.

Capt Gregory Prickett - Good reply. I am not only a vet, I became an entrepreneur back in 1983 and learned how to apply my old business skills to an even better degree. A lot of my thinking since, on military affairs as well as civilian affairs, is dictated by that slant, an all-consuming slant.

I am also cursed with genes that gave me wizard capabilities. Yes, I said wizard. I cannot make things appear or disappear, call up storms or sooth storms, nope, no can do. But my wizard skill is in seeing not only what is there to see, but also what is not there to see. It is a very useful skill. Over the last 4 decades I come to understand that most people don't have that wizard ability, and strangely enough even having been exposed to it, they still deny it and make no effort to learn the skill for themselves.

Much of that skill depends on knowing the English language, having a rather better than average vocabulary, and knowing how words and terms are strung together to convey a message. It is inevitable that in crafting a message to convey an idea, one is at the same time conveying some intelligence by the absence of words and ideas.

For instance if I quote the Merriam Webster's definition of Capitalism (first recorded in a dictionary in 1828) you see this: "Capitalism - an economic system characterized by private or corporate ownership of capital goods, by investments that are determined by private decision, and by prices, production, and the distribution of goods that are determined mainly by competition in a free market."

Straightforward as definitions go; but, do you see what is not there - and trust me Amigo, what is not there is extremely important.

"Each house may determine the rules of its proceedings" - straightforward as a sentence goes (and it is a sentence used as a phrase) - so you see what is there; but, you do not wish to see what is not there. I see it, I have spent long hours confirming my vision, and the proofs that it is a flaw that put congress beyond the control of the people is plentiful and irrefutable.

In no way was TSOH disrespectful to ORANGE IMPOTUS. Seeing the responses is beyond a doubt pure idiocy. Did any of you turn coats see Orange IMPOTUS SHAKE THE HAND OF TSOH.......NO!!!!!!
THIS WAS MORE DISRESPECTFUL. A 5 time Draft Dodger and you people defend Mr Bone Spur. Mr Bone SPUR signed an executive order last Tuesday denying 200,000 jobs the Department of Veterans Affairs desperately is in need. This is an IMPOTUS stating in 2016. "VETERANS ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT TO OUR NATION." This is the same Orange IMPOTUS, presented a BUDGET to the Congress last week with sizable cuts to Veterans, Disable, Seniors, SSA, Medicare, Medicaid. ORANGE IMPOTUS is still referring to SSA, Medicare, Medicaid as entitlements. People......We worked for those benefits. And you people are worried about lies being torn. By the by CPO Nate S. It is CENSURE. Next time leave the "T" out.
