With the recent amount of stolen valor it is hard to keep up with all the different threads being posted here on RallyPoint. From this point forward if you have a stolen valor question, comment, and or post, then add it here. The posts that currently exist will stay, as we don't want to lose the already existing discussion content. If you have started a stolen valor post prior to this and wish to have it merged to this one then feel free to let me know and I will merge that for you. The initial post will be gone but the discussion content will be merged to this posting.

When I first got in police work (back in the stone age), before they had the term 'Stolen Valor,' I arrested a homeless guy who kept telling my partner and I how 'Agent Orange' was his partner when he was in the jungle on a super top secret VC hit team.

MAJ (Join to see), I think he approached you, because most people wouldn't have questioned him. He probably thought you were a sure thing for a handout because of his claimed veteran status.

SFC (Join to see) Honestly, I'm not sure what even inspired me to really question him. My initial instinct was to offer to fill up his gas tank. But having read so many stolen valor stories I thought - maybe one question. When he couldn't even ramble off a quick MOS, that's when I went to DD214 (I also asked what 622-1 was), and it was downhill from there. If the guy would have even said something close to an MOS, I would have probably just dropped it.

My question is what should be done with the people who stole valor? Jail community service what? According to UCMJ we cannot impersonate a NCO or officer. Depending on how severe the crime is what we'll have to pay either reduced in grade reduction in pay or kicked out with a bad discharge.

I'm part of an 8th ID group on Facebook. A guy posted this picture of his uncle. He's retired CSM Jesse Ramil. Someone said they did know him at Fort Riley in the 70's when he was their CSM. His uniform looks a little suspicious. What say you, legit?

I've been on the opposite side as well. After I retired, I joined the Texas State Guard's Maritime Regiment for a while (until I took a position in Afghanistan and had to drop out.) The TSG is like the Civil Air Patrol. It's completely volunteer, and rank is based on whatever you actually earned in the service.
Since I retired at E-9, I came into the Maritime Regiment as an E-9. The Maritime Regiment wears a uniform that looks like Marine camo, but without the globe and anchor. Rank is Navy rank, and by regulation I could wear my airborne wings. Everything was fine until I participated in a disaster readiness exercise held at a nearby Navy base.
A Navy MCPO was very displeased to see me wearing Navy MCPO rank on what looked like a Marine uniform with Army wings. I was polite about it, but I finally had to say, "You are welcome to check the TSG regs online and I will gladly give you the phone number of my commander if you want to confirm that I am wearing this uniform in the prescribed manner."

So I count about 20 service stripes on that uniform..the "CSM" served actively in the Army for 60 years, huh? So when was the last time anyone saw a 77 year old active in the Army? Edit: OK, so it is 16 stripes, but still, seems a little out of place. At 60+ years old, still over mandatory retirement. You'd think with that much bling, someone would have heard of him.

This guy's as fake as a three-dollar bill. Awards and ribbons in the incorrect order, wings look like they're on the wrong side, not sure, but that LOOKS like a USMC marksmanship badge on the right, and unless that's a recruiter's badge (certainly doesn't look like a pumpkin patch), it doesn't belong there, either. I've got four words for this whole situation. No, No and....um.....Hell NO.

Works for me. Thanks for setting this up brother. RallyPoint has more ways to sort threads coming very soon. No two people have the same concept of the perfect professional military site and being able to tailor it to individual wants and needs is a welcome change for many.

1SG (Join to see) , There have been numerous incidents posted online, YouTube, Facebook, etc... This is a good idea to just capture it all.

This video is from 2012. This dude is old news.
I find it ironic that he thinks we are all screwed up in the head and we are all idiots/morons/psychopaths and in spite of that, he tries to impersonate us.
By the looks of it, he is just a lonely man out looking for attention. Obviously he is not interested in getting his attention by putting in any kind of hard work, like exercising or having some sort of skills. He isn't even that great at putting on a uniform and knowing what little knowledge is required to pass off as a member of the military.
If he was actually as smart as he probably feels, he would have impersonated a private...so no one knew he was jacked up. Then, as people feed him info, absorb it and impersonate his way up and develop a back story. At least that way he would seem more legit. I guess if you are going to try to dupe people though, you should shoot for the stars. You'll either spectacularly succeed or spectacularly fail.
