With the recent amount of stolen valor it is hard to keep up with all the different threads being posted here on RallyPoint. From this point forward if you have a stolen valor question, comment, and or post, then add it here. The posts that currently exist will stay, as we don't want to lose the already existing discussion content. If you have started a stolen valor post prior to this and wish to have it merged to this one then feel free to let me know and I will merge that for you. The initial post will be gone but the discussion content will be merged to this posting.

The entire Armed Forces including Active, Reserve & National Guard make up less than 5% of our nation's population and this person disgraces himself, but more importantly the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen & Marines both past & present.

LTC, I'm in the Coast Guard, and even I see people pulling this shit. I called one guy on it and he told me "what do you know you are just in the Coast Guard?". Crap like this pisses me off.

This is not about defending my honor, its about defending the honor of those who can't. Valor Law or not this can not be allowed. In the picture is a friend SFC Christopher L. Robinson coming home. As he was SF he was killed in the same uniform that many pretend to be a part of and to me this just doesn't seem fair to Chris, his wife, or his kids for his sacrifice. The uniform much like our flag is more than scraps of fashioned linen and it should be protected.

I love the uniform but I wouldn't die for it I don't know anyone that would specifically die for a piece of clothing that's not what the military or the uniform is for it is a symbol. . The brotherhood and unit cohesion, the dedication of service to our soldier's and leaders is what I would risk life or limb to protect, we have rules in our use of force procedures that give authority to defend yourself, your unit or fellow soldier; it doesn't say military uniforms or symbols.... the philosophy your endorsing is the same that extremist Muslims use on reference when pictures portray the Prophet Muhammad... just saying if we represent freedom we cant then say what civilians can and cant do...

SPC David Stephenson, The people who join the military...THOSE are the people who have "an obligation of duty and or honor". But, what the United States of America is ABOUT is the defending of people not to conform. Yes, they need to follow the laws to maintain civility, but it's ABOUT their ability to test the limits of what is allowed.

When I was a young Soldier and even as a young Lieutenant, you would not go out or even travel in your duty uniform. Back and forth to work and then change immediately after the day was complete. Its a symbol of commitment and should be protected. Stolen Valor is serious and should be confronted and corrected professionally when observed.

Ohhh I can pick out a few things. I'm not all that up to date on ASU standards, but wouldn't the Ranger Tab be on a pocket? He has a Ranger Scroll, and a Tan beret....but aren't there only like four CSMs in the entire Ranger organization? (3 Battalions and Regiment). Also, I could buy the 7 overseas bars, but 10 service stripes? I don't even think he's old enough. No Airborne wing or Infantry disc backings....and I can't really make out all the ribbons, but it does look like there are at least a few out of order.

I just switched from the class A uniform. Scrolls and tab must be pin on only. I know right. bye-bye scroll sandwich and no tower of power for the SF guys.

SGT Hanner, you can wear the ranger tab as long as you passed the school, you do not have to actually be in the unit. I had a couple of questions when I joined the Texas National Guard after seeing a Special Forces and Ranger tab on an AGR Supply Sergeant. Turns out the guy really was a bad ass before he became a Supply Sergeant

SGT (Join to see) While that is absolutely true about the TAB, the same does not apply to the ranger SCROLL (unit patch) that he is wearing, as well as the beret he is holding. Both of those are only for wear while in the unit, except if worn as a combat patch, but he's wearing the crest too, which would indicate current assignment.....and he's wearing the tab in the wrong place on ACUs. It should be on the pocket, not the sleeve.

It seems to be the thing to do these days. I have a LinkedIn account and we had this poser claimed that he was SF, wanting to join the group. After attempting to vett him, we called him out and I confronted him. He disappeared, but not before making a personnel complaint with my civilian employer LAPD. The complaint was unfounded and pissed me off. But, I will do it again. I think we have an obligation to keep this posers out and make sure they do not steal the valor of those who cannot defend themselves. My opinion.

Back when I first joined LinkedIn - there was an individual posing as a real US General officer trying to elicit funds - turned the individual in to the admin but I don't know who it was that actually stole the General's identity or if he was ever busted for it. Sad times..

Wow MSgt Kerwin....I got the same email. Mine was someone claiming to be a GEN Campbell looking to get funds to form a start up of some kind. I knew it had to be fake. No way a senior leader enlisted or officer would solicit folks over email asking for money.

My observation of this picture:
1. Wears an ISAF patch however, has no combat patch shown (not everyone wears them though)
2. Collar is worn incorrectly
3. Wears PC indoors, badges not displayed properly either
4. Is not Special Forces because they know how to wear the uniform properly
5. Likely has not graduated from Airborne and Air Assault courses
6. Should not have a CIB (no combat patch)
7. Likely knows he is wrong and only wants attention
8. Either he is just jacked up today and forgot his combat patch, rules about wearing a PC indoors and wear of uniform (collar) or....
9. This guy is truly and most likely a bonafide stolen valor imposter
10. I would not be fooled by someone like this because I will start asking questions about their military career, assignments, etc. I caught a couple before and they ran off.

Theres a reason we have uniform standards and why those standards are beat into our heads from the moment we join the Army. When you watch a movie with an american actor and they put on an Army Uniform, they (more than likely) get it wrong. We cringe and point out that ribbons are out of order or that a badge is crooked or on the wrong side. We've all done it. ITs because those standards are ingrained in us. When we see something out of place we notice it. This pays off when we're deployed and the enemy puts on a US uniform and tries to cross the wire. They'll more than likely get it wrong. A US Soldier walks a certain way, talks a certain way (we have our own language) salutes a certain way and wears their uniform a certain way.

I'm not sure if this is true or not but I was told by one of my NCOs that in regards to media, such as movies and tv shows, there is a rule about not displaying the correct way to wear a military uniform so as to prevent anyone from correctly impersonating a SM from watching said movies or tv shows.

Very true CSM, I been out since Jan 2013 after almost ten years and I still have AR 670-1 still beat into my mind and still to this day catch myself correcting movies and even have to stop myself for correcting active duty members. What I been doing is if I see a active duty Soldier jacked up and there is a NCO around, that I know, I point it out to him/her quietly.

Imagine the fun you would have to thank him for his service and get everyone to cheer for him in the restaurant. Then, announce to everyone that he has to hurry up and get his meal to go because you are following orders to deliver all the SF guys to the airfield. Operation "Secret Squirrel" takes off in 15 minutes because Congress just approved the funding. "Weapons check in 20 Soldier, you have to get in the car, NOW!!!!

In a calm but no-nonsense attitude, point out that I am and know the real deals and they ain't one. Sit next to them until it makes them uncomfortable and they leave. Of course it probably won't happen to me because my wife won't let me get around crowds much......without adult supervision.......LOL
