With the recent amount of stolen valor it is hard to keep up with all the different threads being posted here on RallyPoint. From this point forward if you have a stolen valor question, comment, and or post, then add it here. The posts that currently exist will stay, as we don't want to lose the already existing discussion content. If you have started a stolen valor post prior to this and wish to have it merged to this one then feel free to let me know and I will merge that for you. The initial post will be gone but the discussion content will be merged to this posting.

PO3,
You are right to do what you did. I'm sorry I wasn't there to help.
I spent all my time in,1983-1989 4 active 2 inactive reserve, during peace time. I feel inadequate when folks thank me for my time. I explain to them that I am not deserving of any thanks but that I would pass it on to someone who was.
To hear about some glory seeking jerk ticks me off to no end.
Thank you for setting him straight. Thank you for your time.

You may not have served during a period of war as defined, but you were then and ready. Your service was honorable and I thank you for it.

I feel the same way Ralph. Aviation maintenance doesn't make me feel like much of a war fighter, however there are great things I take away from the job I did while i served.

Nicely done Sir. I wonder if Golden Corral made the guy pay for his food as they were kicking him out?

Outing him was probably embarrassment enough. Having to pay would have been icing on the cake!

When my husband and I (both veterans) went to Golden Corral this past Veteran's Day for dinner there were people outside asking if you were a veteran so they could give you a sticker (no other proof was required other than your word, which should be enough but we all know isn't). Many couples were there together where (usually) the woman would say my husband is the veteran and... wait for it...they STILL gave her a sticker for a free meal and said she served too! Before anyone jumps down my throat, I am not in any way, shape or form diminishing the sacrifices the families make and I think that military discounts should apply to them, as long as that is the policy of the establishment. After I got out I was a dependent spouse for about 10 years. What got me so upset was that this was supposed to be a day for VETERANS, to honor their service. These (mostly women) were not lying or stretching the truth about their part but were given the same benefits as those who served when the benefit was supposed to be for VETERANS. Maybe I am wrong and it was for all military affiliated, but then why ask if you are a veteran? As a female veteran I felt like my service was being cheapened because to someone just looking at all the women with stickers (which was nearly all of them) the sticker became worthless, there was no way to separate the veterans from the spouses. AGAIN, I want to stress that I am not saying their role is not important or that a veteran is more anything than a spouse. What I am saying is that at an event for veterans where veterans are being identified in a particular way to give that identifying item to everyone defeats the purpose.

Potential punishment should be HUGE community service requirement... OR - if the personal criteria is met, they should be conscripted into service and all cadre are to be made aware of their offense... in order for the offenders to get the taste of WHAT it MEANS to wear the uniform.

Or simply deport them into Afghanistan...

No, if we did that then POTUS would simply trade more terrorists for them as soon as they went AWOL.

Also, here are the current Laws on the books. SFC (Join to see), SSG, They contribute very much. Also, the website, Military Medals Of America will sell a fake, everything he or she needs. Also, there is a website that allows visitors to download certificates of Purple Hearts, SS, BS, any thing a fake would need to make up their dirty lies. The one I posted two days ago baffled me. The phony had Purple Heart license plates. I haven't seen that before. Thanks for the question.

Lt. Col. Gerald H. Green III and his totally bogus uniform adventures

Green_LTC
I’m sure you remember Lt. Col. Gerald H. Green III in the picture above who was busted by folks when he was assigned as the commander of the Warrior Training Center at Fort Benning. Originally, he was busted for his Ranger Tab and his Sapper Tab. Investigators looked more closely at his uniform, according to the Army Times;

The investigation found Green hadn’t earned his Combat Action Badge or his Army Commendation Medal with valor device, wore air assault wings despite not graduating from air assault school, and “wrongfully certified his … personnel record that he had received the Expert Infantry Badge and a Presidential Unit Citation,” wrote the investigator, whose name was redacted.

I’m wondering, at this point, if he’s authorized to wear the buttons on his uniform. According to the article, Green claims that there was “a discussion of being put in for” a Combat Action Badge, so he just decided to pin it on. He dropped out of Air Assault School twice so I guess he figured that’s just like graduating from the very physical course.

The allegations against Green are being handled “through non-judicial and administrative action,” Fort Benning spokesman Gary Jones said in an email. “Charges under the UCMJ were not preferred against LTC Green. The Privacy Act precludes us from releasing the precise details of that action.”
[…]
Green remains on active duty at Benning, according to a spokesman with the National Guard Bureau. Details on his duty status were not immediately available, Jones said, and Green was away from the base the week of March 23.
Anyone else, who isn’t a field grade officer would be crying in their beer about being unemployed on Victory Drive right about now – but not this little cretin, who I’m told has flag officers protecting him. F*** this guy – that guy right there – f*** him!

I just don't understand these service members that think they have to falsify their records. They serve and receive appropriate increase in rank, and then screw that up. How embarrassing is that?

I recently saw a cadet in uniform with a Presidential Unit Citation award but nothing on the other side.... It caused me to do a double take. I wanted to ask him about it but unfortunately I didn't have the time.

My retired Navy friend and I were just discussing this... There was certainly a time and place when one could and likely did get away with this... THIS is no longer those days.

I am in no way justifying Stolen Valor in any way, but it is one thing to be sitting in Podunk bar regaling the ladies with, "So there I was... in the thick...", but everything is so incredibly investigative and public now.

Seaman Special Snowflake got off easy in my opinion.

Sick of seeing people do this. And if he felt that "getting shot" would mean he accomplished something, he must have been confused. That just means you were unfortunate.

Oops - SOMEBODY made a mistake and now must pay. Good

I need to ask, though - how dumb is it to wear an unearned Purple Heart? That stands out like a sore thumb. However, you can't fix stupid.
