Thoughts on president Barack Obama saying we under estimated ISIS and over estimated the will and power of our allies. Syrian and Iraqi forces?

Why is it that we fight and want good things for other countries more than they want for themselves?

I don't think "WE" underestimated them. I think the President and his advisers did. Everyone here (on RP) saw this handwriting on the wall.

Prez was stopped from bombing them in Syria 6 + months ago by McCain, Speaker Boner who pointed out that only Congress could declare war. Temporary War Power for President to send troops, order military action is for time sensitive situations. Face it. Smedley Butler warned us" War is a Racket". Common sense tells you that if being threatened do not wait. Obliterate them from the earth. A lot of innocent women, Children, animals, plants, etc. will die but why take KIA,WIA and spend trillions of $$$'s?. Nuke Pakistan, House of Saud,Kuwait,Yemen, Afghanistan back to the stone age and do not even acknowledge it. Think hard..if they had it would they use it? Iraq now #2 Oil Producer in the world last 4-6 months and Halliburton is running the show there on US Tax dollars. Before OIF Iraq could not " Sell " a drop of Oil due to UN Sanctions but Uncle( I won The war ) Cheyney started that project first day in office with private meetings with Big Oil, Halliburton, etc. looking at Iraqi pipelines. Our Troops fought, died ,we're wounded to free the OIL. Democracy about 3rd on the List. Remember when Rumsfield was in Reagans Cabinet Saddam was our Boy. WE( US & UK) gave him binary Chemical weapons in early, early 80's. IF our Congress worked more than a few weeks at a time we could have obliterated ISIS/ISL over 6 months ago. They we're concentrated in Syria before moving in to Iraq. Nuke them all and let Allah sort them out.; When they get an atomic weapon they will use it. Hopefully against each other.... they have been killing each other since before 700 AD .

ISIS is just as big of a joke as the Taliban. Both mean and evil. Both just need exterminated. However, if we were allowed to do our job when faced with such evil...They wouldn't stand a chance. The only problem is that war isn't war anymore. Its a political agenda, which excites horror and terror into the minds of the week and keep people NEEDING the government. The truth is, that if the politicians had to grab a weapon and put their feet to the fire like we do...There wouldn't be anymore "wars" unless it was our freedom at stake. The only problem with that theory is that the politicians are oh so swift to send our young and brave to fight a war if they know it will help them in the ratings and elections. ISIS?! Does anyone remember the fact that Japan came here and tried to sucker punch us, so we detained EVERY Japanese that was in the U.S. THEN and only then went to their home front and dropped an atomic bomb (killing 150,000 people in a nano-second. Putting fear into the eyes of anyone willing to try to step on our toes again?! NOW we send a couple hundred troops the the enemies home, and do humanitarian aid to the locals, give the people that are here in the states more rights and privilages than natural born citizens and try to tell the people in the United States to not worry, we'll give them a safe place to sit back and attack our beautiful land, because we are compassionate?!
The question isn't, are we underestimating ISIS... The question is... How much are we underestimating our own military, and why are we trying to kiss everyone ass that is trying to do harm to our way of life?

Well we're the only superpower. Sad to say but it comes with the territory. I wouldn't say underestimated. That's only being said because some 30/40,000 Iraqi soldiers or whatever the number is, decided to turn their back on their country, leaving not only uniforms but actual equipment (rifles, grenades, tanks, artillery, etc.). Those Iraqi soldiers were what stood in between the Iraqi/Syria border and Baghdad, leaving only local law enforcement to turn into the region's defense. There's your underestimation. A group of thousands attacking a group of hundreds who are inept in training & equipment.

I am sure that I echo many of our RallyPoint comrades when I say that I do not think that WE underestimated ISIS. And I also believe that I echo comments and thoughts that WE brought a knife to a gun fight on this one. How does one effectively neutralize or kill an enemy? They decisively engage and destroy the enemy threat. Attacks from the air is a great "one up" as an engagement...until the enemy adapts...

The U.S need to stop trying to justify helping other countries when we have mountains of crime over here, we have enough here to exercise our humanitarian concerns.

I don't understand politicians method cutting down the number of military personnel in each branch putting our service members at greater risk on overseas deployments with less. Now we are striking Syria, and talking about arming others to fight their own battles. But it seems to me the very people we are supporting is killing our military personnel and American civilians, it is better for the U.S to cut all ties and let the other countries fend for themselves.

Sgt. Jones,
Isis is possessed, I don't know how you view them but they are. They don't have the better things like the rest of the world and only want power for themselves it is not about Islam at all. It is about greed, and to gain control over resources. We have to get rid of these demons and holy water ain gon cut it to be honest with you. Why else would they want to get us so bad? They see how happy we are in well developed countries. They still have a Marxist mentality still.

PFC Sims, You may not have said it all but what you typed out I definitely believe. President Obama wanted to nail them when they we're smaller and centrally located in Syria but Congressional members came out yelling the President did not have the power to declare, start or make war without Congressional approval( Real Assh$les). Then 6 months later they march in to Iraq and the familiar" What will we do?" comes out of their mouths on tv, sound bites, etc. Iraq is being taken over by ISIS/ISIL but oil production in Iraq run by Halliburton is at peak production( #2 in the world for last 5-6 months behind House of Saud ( Khobar tower bombing we repeatedly asked them to extend the perimeter fence from our buildings and Royals said " No". Truck out of Syria filled with fertilizer and Diesel killed 19 & wounded hundreds June 1995 just like Marine Barracks in Beirut in Sep. 1983). Point being it is known the # 1 Financial backer of ISIS/ISIL is Saudi followed by Kuwait , then Yemen. Saudi started Wahhibism in 70's and exported Extremist Movement ever since. Since we could obliterate ISIS/ISIL with smart bombs drones , tactical nukes, etc. I want to blast Saudi & Syria back to the stone age. IF they had weapons of mass Destruction like small tactical or intermediate yield ballistic missiles they would use them on us. We are going to spend close to a billion each year disposing of weapons at Anniston. Use those weapons now. Remembering Smedley Butler( look him up. 2 time MOH ) telling us that " War is a Racket ". It is fought for a premise but in reality it is a moneymaker for the tycoons of certain Industries. Iraq was not able to export oil for profit due to UN sanctions. After we invaded and set up shop there in March 2003 the contracts we're already awarded without competition for the goal of getting Iraq back on-line. First 30 days of Dubya's term had Cheyney in private( Against FOIA Regulations) discussions & meetings with Campaign contributors in the Oil/Energy industry. As of 6 months ago Iraq is #2 Producer of Crude oil in the world being run, pumped, shipped, refined, etc. because with Saddam's death the UN sanctions disappeared. Why has Congress been on paid vacation for 7 of the last 12 weeks and will be on vacation Thanksgiving through New Year's IF ISIS/ISIL we're a threat ? They do not care...they want a military action, a war ; it justifies THIER jobs.

When I was deployed to Desert Storm, the Government stopped us just short of Baghdad, thereby "ending the war in 100 hours"...of course, they forgot to mention the 1 month of bombing we did to soften everything up first! When we left, I told people back then it was mission incomplete.... that we would be back. Fast forward to 2001/02 time frame.... guess what? We go back. In 2013(ish) we completely pull out....again, no stabilization forces... I was predicting with friends upon pulling out that we would be back.... the MILITARY knows when the mission is complete....the government types that have never been there have no clue, except for what they can tell their voters.... Is this anything new? Yes.... and No..... Will anything change? Not until the people of the USA determine a long course of action that will not be waivered on.....

More profit their way. Why listen to military professionals...JCS works for....? First Gulf War ( Battle of Khafji, e.g.) was just 1 year too early for GW Bush to secure re-election. Second invasion of Iraq freed the oil blocked by UN Sanctions. Smedley Butler warned us " War is a Racket". At time of his death he was the highest decorated Marine. We know first days of Jr's Presidency Cheyney had secret meetings with big Oil, Halliburton Campaign contributors, etc. This year through FOIA requests drawings and schematics of known Iraqi oil lines was the subject Of Uncle ( Finally got a heart on VP med Plan) Dick's meetings. WE really do need better government officials. Between Bush or Gore I have to say I did not like either. Kerry married Theresa Heinz after her husband( Sen John Heinz R-PA) was murdered by having helo flaps reversed. FAA inspection/ investigation revealed Flap or stabilizer reversed caused accident. She shut down all Heinz plants because Union Wages made it difficult for Fortune 200 company to make a profit. Manufacturing swapped to Mexico but price of Ketchup never went down. Mr Heinz, I mean Kerry proudly declared he had thrown his self generated Purple heart over the White House wall in protest until Declaring his candidacy for Dem. candidate. Then it was " Someone elses " Medal. Either way he lied then or he lied when he claimed he threw back his medal. We should not be a 2 party country. I want more choice. Congress should go back to being compensated by their respective states. Civil Service Reform Act written and voted on by Congress in 1956 put Congress on federal payroll. Money is not speech. Democratic republic can work.WE have to care enough to
throw bums out, limit what Congress does, etc. We ( US & UK) gave Saddam binary chemical weapons during his war against Iran. We gave him overhead satellite imagery of Iranian positions. We went in to Iraq to free the oil and have an elite few make $$'s. Smedley Butlers life story ( asked to be the face of the overthrow of FDR before WW2 by rich such as Rockefellers, Duponts, etc. ) he blew the whistle to Congress. But then as now there is a Rockefeller in Senate (West Va.) and Biden has been the Duponts mouthpiece and man in Congress from Delaware since the 70's. " War is a Racket ".

Actually the President said, 'the intelligence community' over looked ISIS as a threat, knowing that was not not the truth. The other key word he focused on was "they" meaning "his" intelligence community. In his inteview with 60 minutes, he left "his" intelligence community out there to take the blame, alluding to no responsibility on his own part. When in fact his daily breifings had indicated the ISIS build up and threat as far back as January.

Please get it right, No where in his interview did this President, say, "WE", nor did he mention his coment months ago, claiming ISIS as a JV team and no real threat!

The President's advisors did not get it wrong....he just refused to listen, receive, or read his daily brief bulletins. So now we're hearing all the White House Mouth Pieces trying to get a handle on making the World believe, the President is on top of this and now, Gen. OBAMA continues NOT to listen to the Sr. Military Advisors and throws out there, "no US boots on the ground.

According to the President yesterday, 'We are not at War with ISIS, we are assisting Iraq because we have security partner agreement with. ' Yet ISIS has claimed to be at war with us. Last week, the President said, "ISIS needs to be destroyed." WTH!

In a short answer; The President's handling of everything relating prior to and up to the present in the middle east, Iraq, Syria is totally FUBAR! He's the President, he's responsible, he's accountable, he controls the response, he controls the non-response! But as usual, he accepts no responsibility for any of it! This is failure of 'they' to him. No responsibility what so ever to himself. Gotta call BS on the President on this one!
