I know it's kind stupid considering the price of this place but I love Carlton Landing in Oklahoma because I'm a sucker for architecture and the community planning of this place is amazing. If you visit it, the downtown reminds you of something like a medieval village with modern architecture. I love this place so much. But it's a bit out of my price range.

I would recommend any city that has a VA regional Hospital and offices. Let’s face it we will all get old and need medical help and the VA medical fees are small and some are even free.

I'd gladly retire to England, Scotland, or Ireland if it weren't for the shitty taxes, cost-of-living, and anti-gun laws--I feel so alive in those countries, plus there's the ancestral connection!

Advantages for military retirees:
High number of defense contracts and jobs that require military skills, convenient base amenities, local VA hospital, affordable standard of living, no state tax on military retirement pay.

And I recall some summers when it was hot as H. in San Antonio. But it indeed had lots of amenities for Military retirees. However I preferred more space and retired to the Ozark Mtn In N. Araknsas.

Don't know of too many around me, if they have a good income coming in, there are a couple of places on the lakeshore they could check out.

My wife and I used to discussed our retirement years. I was a "farm boy" and she was a small town girl, thus we both enjoyed a peaceful, serenity life. Upon retiring, we planned to build a cabin home on a lake somewhere. I am not an artist by a long shot, but I painted such a scene for her as something to look forward to, but two years later, God called her home and our retirement was not to be. 29 1/2 yrs later, I still have that painting as to what might have been.

I am currently living in Clarksville, Tennessee, It right outside the main gate of Fort Campbell, Ky, the city is about 120K now and growing we have lots of jobs here do to all the new factory jobs coming in and as a retiree you are next to one of the biggest PXs and Commissary in the USA. We are only 45 minutes from Nashville where the biggest and best hospitals are located too We get some snow and it can get cold but the weather as a whole is good we do have the four season here. We do not have a state Tax either which is great.

I'm thinking about Greenville, SC, the location of Tabernacle Baptist College & Seminary where I would enjoy closing out my days teaching doctrinal and theological studies. Additionally, it puts me between my son and his family in Augusta, GA and my daughter and her family in Charleston, SC.
The air is clean, the scenery lush and green most of the year, relatively low taxes and moderate cost of living.

Spent one year of college at BJU in Greenville, SC, before heading home and marring my HS sweet heart (now over 51 yrr), # months after getting married I was "invited" :) to join the military and quickly enlisted in the Air Force. I recall thatduring the time I was in Greenville, it seemed to be a peaceful area.

Maj Bill Smith, Ph.D. - Congratulations on the longevity of your marriage; a rare accomplishment these days but easy to do when the Lord is at the center of the relationship.
BJU has had a fine reputation for a very long time - a good choice of schools.
It would appear from your bio that we both have the gift of teaching in common and a couple of others. Looking forward to getting better acquainted through RP.
Thanks for your vote up, Bill - much appreciated.

Utah is pretty awesome. Great outdoors, skiing/snowboarding, hunting is great. Then the southern part of the state has some amazing canyons and desert scenery.
