Dickson County public schools in Tennessee has elected to ban all flags after a summer of controversy with the confederate flag. All flags would include "Old Glory".

I don't like anyone banning the display of our flag. But, the local scholl's should have control.

If I were a parent I would become vocal.

CW4 Guy Butler Actually checked out the facts. The students are not allowed to fly flags on their vehicles on school property. They have said it is not the proper way to display the American Flag and they are correct. Once again irresponsible reporting by people calling themselves "journalist".

Everything I can find on legitimate news sites says this post is BS and flags are not banned. Do you have a source?

The only flags that a school should allow are the US Flag, State Flag, and if the school has one, the School Flag. I'm really getting tired of all this crap like what happened last year in California, if memory serves, where a school banned clothing that displayed the American Flag on Cinco de Mayo because they feared backlash from Mexican students.
Last I checked this is America and we should always be proudly flying our nations flag, it should never be removed for political correctness.

Personally Sir, I think a lot of things are getting out of hand. No one alive today in the USA legally owns any slaves and there are no slaves. Most Southerners look at the stars and bars just as a way of saying hey we Southern folk. Yes the KKK has used it in bad form, but there are other groups using flags in bad form also. such as the New Black Panther movement. President Grant ( formerly general on the Union Side owned slaves, on the other hand, Robert E. Lee ( southern General) did not. I think all of this racial stir up is being caused by the government to help keep us divided so they can strip us of all our freedom. Old Glory should be flown at every school, Government building, etc. That flag holds all of our history has a nation. To ban or do away with it, tells me you want to do away with the USA and it's freedom, Sir.

It's a crock of crap!! The school should loose all federal funding until Old Glory is restored. I'm sick of schools banning the U.S. flag for "fear of offending ...." If people in the United States are offended by the United States flag, they are free to leave!

As a Tennessean...I'm "face palming" on my way to the head to throw up.

I'll try to avoid sensationalism and politics. Number one, a flag is a symbol, and a symbol only has relevance to those whom it represents...and those who oppose what it represents. A New York Yankees cap means nothing to me because I'm neither a fan of the Yankees or Boston.

Old Glory should represent ALL of us...regardless of our differences. One of my known Rev-War ancestors died fighting in a red coat (and from family legend, for reasons I can respect); however, I don't fly the Union Jack because I'm not a British citizen. I don't fly one myself, for a number of reasons (up to and including my Civil War ancestor died at Andersonville)...but the colors of the Army of Northern Virgina represent the history of American soldiers who fought for what they believed in, and I give it that much respect. If you can honestly tell me you'd feel "ok" flying it from your porch when being visited by African American neighbors...then I'll admit that is your call. If you'd take it down, then you have to admit there's a point where "heritage" can be a source of controversy, and that there are some places it doesn't belong...I think schools apply.

I wonder, though I think I know the answer...if Washington and Cornwallis, Lee and Grant, Custer and Crazy Horse could be brought back to life, having full knowledge of ALL that's happened in the the last two and a half centuries...WWI and II, Southeast Asia, the Middle East..."Doughboys" , "Yanks", "Code Talkers" and "Restrepo"...does anyone think they would applaud this recent example of weakness?
