What do you think about the Naval Acemedy's new position specific helmets?

I think that these uniforms look cool. While I have no idea how money works in big Navy I think it might be a bit excessive getting a new football uniform every year or so. I can see the PR attraction but is this necessary? Ahh, who am I kidding? I just want Under Armour pt gear. Thoughts?
For the first time in NCAA history, a college football team will have its players wearing different helmets during the game based on the position they play.
And no, it's not the Oregon Ducks.
The Navy Midshipmen will be wearing special "Navy Fleet" uniforms for the Army-Navy game on Saturday, Dec. 12, in Philadelphia.
Although the uniforms look sharp, the new look is all about the helmets.
There will be a total of seven different hand-painted helmets worn by Midshipmen players during the game, representing "seven of the historic ships that make up the U.S. Naval Fleet." Each position group will be assigned a specific helmet that will pay tribute to one of the seven ships.

LT (Join to see) Notwithstanding the butchered title, let's look at sentence #1, shall we? "I think that these uniforms look cool."
These helmets are not "uniform," so...
From the NCAA at: http://fs.ncaa.org/Docs/rules/fielddiagrams/football.pdf
RULE 1-4 / THE GAME, FIELD, PLAYERS AND EQUIPMENT FR-33
Mandatory Equipment
ARTICLE 4. All players shall wear the following mandatory equipment,
which shall be professionally manufactured and not altered to decrease
protection:
...
b. Helmet. .... Players of a team shall wear helmets of the same color and design, and face masks of the same color.
...
Note: If a player is not wearing mandatory equipment in compliance in all
respects with Rule 1-4-4, the team shall be charged a timeout and the player
shall not be permitted to play until he complies. VIOLATION—Rules 3-3-6
and 3-4-2-b-2 [S23, S3 or S21].
I'd say that seven designs are in direct violation of this rule.

And the GOOD JAG would say that having a ship -- even if the ships are different -- on the side of each helmet is similar to having a number on the side of each helmet -- even if the numbers are different -- and thus you have helmets of the same color and design. GOOD JAGs in all services help the Commander accomplish his mission instead of telling him how he Can't accomplish his mission. GO Army, Beat navy!

MAJ Tex Hall - You bring up a good point about the images potentially being interpreted like different numbers. However, I want the GOOD JAG to tell me how I CAN accomplish the mission of interpreting the helmets as NOT uniform. If you can help with that, that would be great. Otherwise, "next slide."

Great design being a Navy Dependent I have a great appreciation for the mighty fleets in our Navy. Particularly, the Aircraft carrier. There size is unquestionably massive.

That sounds super lame, honestly. Then again, it's the Academy; when your whole life is scripted, you have to take whatever bit of color life can give you, I guess.

Not to sound like an old grump...but even when I was there, the Football team seemed like an entirely separate entity from the Brigade. I'm pretty neutral to what they wear...so long as they BEAT ARMY!
