What do you think about the wear of organizational headgear such as colored berets?

What are your thoughts on the wear of organizational headgear? If you are assigned to a ranger unit, you wear the tan beret. Airborne unit, maroon beret. Special Forces unit, green beret. Personally, IMHO even if I was assigned to a unit that was authorized special headgear/organizational headgear, I wouldn't wear the organizational headgear unless I was airborne, special forces, ranger qualified because I don't feel I have earned the right to wear such an item. As a Marine, I have nothing but respect for the US Army's warfighting skills. That said... the Army's uniform quandaries are a source of great amusement to Marines. You guys have more hats than the ladies at the Kentucky Derby.
P.S. My favorite crayon flavor is orange.

LTC Stephen C. - The new uniform hats do appear like the
WW II Deutsche Wehrmacht hats. I do recall my MP unit in Deutschland
wore our duty white hats with that same "saddle" look 1969-'71.

Glad you agree, SPC Woody Bullard! I’ve no intention of purchasing the new uniform. I’ll simply wear my old dress blues to events after retreat. Even if I did buy this new uniform, I wouldn’t be caught dead in that wretched service cap. I’d just get a garrison cap and be done with it!

Your point is rather ironic considering everything the marine corps wear is a distinct unit hat, shirt, etc because you are a unit of the navy and wear your own uniform and headgear to distinguish yourself from the branch of the military that you ultimately answer to...

Perhaps you should read the National Security Act of 1947.
Look the new Army MP Hat!!

Glad I earned the Black one before it became tan. There is no other feeling like the Donning of the Beret ceremony. When you actually earn your beret, it feels like one of the most incredible moments of your life. It was on par with the moment I had my tab pinned on me.
Haters will hate, but only those who have walked the walk will understand what it's like to fill those shoes; and I stand with respect and awe to every Paratrooper and Ranger who came before me.

I crossed over from the Marines to the Army in 2006. It was the "berret hey day" era. Being that I worked in a motor pool I had to bring the beret and soft cover everywhere I went. Wearing the beret was annoying. It didn't keep the sun out of my eyes at all. So glad we got rid of it in late 2010.

Well stated brother! I earned the maroon beret as a paratrooping combat medic and to have earned it is a privilege and feeling that I will never forget or down play. Yes the Army should maintain the establishment of organizational headgear, among other things it promotes esprit de corp, honor, and a sense of belonging to something bigger than oneself.
Indeed, haters will hate.
ALL THE WAY!!!

I was not a Ranger I was a LRRP K/75th 4th ID.
When the black beret was taken away from Rangers I was very angry. I felt they had been screwed.

I was at the end of my enlistment when this stupid policy was enacted. Felt bad for the Rangers I met who earned it.

Ah I don’t see it as any different than someone wearing awards/unit citations the unit received they did not receive with the unit.
You are a member of that unit you wear what they wear.
Others may feel different.

I'm so confused ??? I can't remember if I wore anything other than the Marksmanship badge and a good conduct bar.. I sent for my awards a couple years ago and was surprised with what they sent me... It amazed me that their records were so well kept...
I think I got an award for perfect penmanship...

I agree wearing some citation that a unit earned in the 40-60 years before you were born doesn't say much IMHO.

Unit citations belong to those in the unit when the qualifying event happened. Otherwise, anyone else didn't EARN it.
