First of all, I hope I know the answer to this question, but one never knows, so I'm asking.
Today, in the "People's Republic of Maryland," this story broke: Non-citizens may be voting (http://www.wtop.com/46/3732751/Md-official-Noncitizens-may-be-voting). I believe it's a valid concern and something should be done to stop it.
What do you think?

I am not allowed to vote in Canada, Mexico, Germany, or any other country (as far as I know). Why should THEY be allowed to vote here?? They should not be. Simple as that. IF they want to vote, they can enter the country legally, apply for citizenship, meet all the requirements, then get a job and start paying taxes. Once citizenship is confirred on them, they may vote.

It is a right of the citizens of this nation to vote. If you are not a citizen you should have no say in the forming/running of the government.

Illegals/undocumented, what ever you want to call them, 1. have no business in this country, 2. as such have no business voting. Should they enter the system legally, and become eligible then it's a non-issue.

It is a right, and also a privilege. Sadly, too many do not enjoy that right/privilege.

I am sorry if I offend anyone. I have no problem with immigrants, so long as they come to the states legally.

Absolutely. Again this is a back door way of winning elections. If it were against them, democrats would be whining.

If an individual is not a citizen of the country they are currently in, whether residing or visiting, then they are not allowed to vote. The Constitution states in the Preamble "We the People OF the United States..." It does not say IN but OF. This quantifies the legal status of each person who so chooses to participate in the culture of the United States. This status is encompassed with being a citizen whose rights and privileges are greater than those who come to the country temporarily. One of these rights and privileges is being able to vote. A person who is in the country illegally or just visiting does not have the right to vote.
This status of rights and privileges in further ensconced within Article IV, Section 2 of the Constitution stating "The CITIZENS of each State shall be entitled to all Privileges and Immunities of Citizens in the several states."
It is further ensconced and specifically set forth within FIVE Amendments:
the 14th Amendment, Section 2, Sentence 2 - "But when the right to vote at any election for the choice of electors for President and Vice-President of the United States, Representatives in Congress, the Executive and Judicial officers of a State, or the members of the Legislature thereof, is denied to any of the male inhabitants of such State, being twenty-one years of age, and CITIZENS of the United States, or in any way abridged, except for participation in rebellion, or other crime, the basis of representation therein shall be reduced in the proportion which the number of such male CITIZENS shall bear to the whole number of male CITIZENS twenty-one years of age in such State.”;
the 15th Amendment, Section 1 - “The right of CITIZENS of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude.”;
the 19th Amendment - “The right of CITIZENS of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.”;
the 24th Amendment, Section 1, “The right of CITIZENS of the United States to vote in any primary or other election for President or Vice President, for electors for President or Vice President, or for Senator or Representative in Congress, shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any State by reason of failure to pay any poll tax or other tax.”;
the 26th Amendment, Section 1, “The right of CITIZENS of the United States, who are eighteen years of age or older, to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of age.”
In each case, only citizens, regardless of skin color, race, gender, or age, are allowed to vote.

We earn that right. It should not be handed out to people who have a "give me sanctuary" agenda.

Non-citizens are non-citizens. A non-citizen voting is a crime but why would we expect or want the law enforced?

Anyone, in any community in the United States of America, which allows a policy of disenfranchising soldier, or veterans, in their communities to exist, should forfeit their own citizenship and voting rights.
As far as voting, I think the right to vote could be determined at the various levels but should be excluded from those who are not here legally. IF person properly go through the process of entry into the United States, then we could discuss if and when they can participate in elections. As far as a Federal election, the only ones with a Constitutional right to vote are US Citizen over the age of eighteen. Sorry, if you are not a citizen, you need to go through the process of becoming a citizen and that includes those who choose to stay and work here, even if they are paying taxes.

I am observing the voting rights of all peoples of America have various levels of engagement, from their own community leadership up to State and National levels. Yes, there is disparity, fear and anxiety that folks new to the U.S are continually experiencing. Our government system of voting at these local levels, within in the various States demonstrates lack of equity.
Our government is knowledgeable to this lack of equity, yet those in government positions lack the KSAs of being a change agent. Folks that are in government positions are restricted to only what is in front of them and not around them. This equates to judgemental and being non-sensitive toward all peoples of America; citizens, veterans, and all others alike.
So, how does each local government entity create change? With the current system, State Legislature is key, yet for those voices who concern themselves with the locality of issues, there is hope to bring issues front and center.

I still support the Robert Heinlein method of citizenship, so that might not exactly apply here.

Awesome book! They are actually talking about making a more faithful adaptation of the book into a movie. I loved the original, for what it was, but what it was had nye on zilch to do with the book!

Usually I can tell someone to watch a movie or read a book, rarely its both. This is one of those instances where I love both, but for different reasons and encourage people to embrace both. I have been telling young cadets and LTs to read the book for years now, it gives a wonderful perspective on leadership and development.
I also often quote the "Third LTs" part often.

I was born in Mexico to a US Citizen mother and a Mexican Citizen father. I started working as a lifeguard/swim instructor when I was a kid because I had a drive to make something of myself and to be able to afford what I wanted. I've been through college up to an Associates degree. I attained my citizenship for the sole purpose of having the right to vote after I joined the military. Voting is not a privilege that should be afforded to the lazy or to the ones with no desire or drive to at least partially conform to the standards of our society. It is a right given only to the citizens of this nation. If you want to have a say in what goes on in OUR country, you must be a citizen of it first.

How can an undocumented immigrant vote? This is one of the most senseless questions that is frequently a topic of discussion pertaining to immigration. Undocumented immigrants cannot obtain a social security number or drivers license in most states now. On top of this it is the responsibility of those at the pull sites to maintain the integrity of the vote. I have personally dealt with undocumented immigrants and know for a fact that they can't qualify for health care, drivers license, social security card, social security disability, social security insurance and while they may work illegally they still have taxes taken away with no return...I am an independent who believes in reality based on fact. People should not come here the wrong way whole at the same token comprehensive immigration reform with cooperation and a fair process from the host country is the only answer!

I am from Texas Sir and new to Maryland. In Texas they require a birth certificate just to renew your license.

Everyone should be required to show proper ID to vote. There is too much voter fraud!

SFC (Join to see), it is quite simple for a non-citizen to register to vote.
Voter-registration systems are oriented around validating residency, not status as a citizen. Prove that somebody with the name you're registering under lives at the address you're using and you're golden in the eyes of the system.

1LT William Clardy if this is occuring we really do need to get a handle on it in that our right to vote is our voice to the politicians reminding them that they work for us Sir! However, I do not believe this is so everywhere. I can tell you that now days in Texas you have to bring your birth certificate and social security card to even renew your state ID or Driver's License. They require this even if you have a valid ID or Drivers License.
I believe that just as they do in Mexico ever legal citizen of the United States should have a voters ID card with biometric identification.
